Chapter 8 - Public?

- Hermione's POV -

We walk into the common room holding hands only to receive stares from people around us. Not a lot of people had noticed though so it wasn't that bad. Ron and Lavender certainly hasn't noticed though. I walked past them with my head held high to show I didn't care in the least.
We reached the doors to the separate dorms and by now people had stopped staring.
"Hermione if the attention bothers you we can just-"
I cut him off with an bone-crushing hug.
"It's fine. I don't mind. At least now everyone's focus won't be on The Chosen One." I say playfully.
He pouts then smiles at me. "Now the focus will be on The Chosen Girl."
"Haha very creative," I hug him quickly and walk over to the stairs below the girls dormitory. "Good night Harry." And with that I turn and head up the stairs into my dorm.
I collapse onto my bed and stare at the ceiling of the four-poster.

This is not happening. No. This is all a dream and I will wake up right now. I pinched myself to make sure I wasn't dreaming. I waited for myself to wake up from this horrible yet at the same time beautiful dream. Nothing happened. But I promised myself I wouldn't fall for Harry again. I told myself to get over him. Ughhh... Why is this so complicated? Ok: Ron has broken my heart. Correct. Harry is offering to help me to only make him jealous. Yeah. There's nothing going on between us. It's only to make Ron jealous. I repeated that last line to myself over and over until I finally drifted off to sleep.

- Harry's POV -
"Good night Harry." Hermione said before turning and going up the stairs to her dorm. I stand in shock for a few moments before I come out of my daze and finally go into my own dorm. I'm in a state of shock that whole evening. I don't feel like returning to the party. I just can't believe that Hermione was going out with me. Even if it was only to make that pig jealous. The thought of him filled me with rage. How could he do that to Hermione?! And she was trying so hard with him as well! Well, that bag of rubbish doesn't deserve someone as amazing as Hermione. I'm going to make her see that. With that thought in my head, I climb into bed and immediately fall asleep.

- Day after, Hermione's POV -
I stroll into the Great Hall to see Harry sitting alone at the Gryffindor table. I immediately walked over and plonked down next to him. He looked a little upset for some reason, and his plate was completely empty.
"Harry? Um, is everything ok?" I asked him.
"Actually, Hermione, not really. I've kind of been thinking, what if people see us, you know, together, and get jealous? What if they try to hurt you?" he replies, worriedly.
I stared at him for a moment. "They won't, Harry. And if they do, I'm the brightest witch of my age, aren't I? Or are you doubting my abilities?" I pout at him. Then burst out laughing. "Cheer up, Harry. Don't be a killjoy!"
He laughs, "so, public?" he asks.
"Public." I nod. "Now eat something or else I will force feed you. It's bad enough that those pigs hardly feed you anything at home. We don't our Chosen One being underfed do we?"
"Fine! fine!" He puts his hands up in defeat and starts shovelling food onto his plate. I raise my eyebrows at him. "I'm hungry, okay? Matter of fact, I was one of the first in here."
I turn back to my plate and begin to eat. All through breakfast we laugh and joke until it's time to go to lessons.

- 3rd person -
All through lessons up until Christmas, the both of them continued to ignore Ron. They refused to work with him, therefore choosing not to sit anywhere near him. And in the evenings Ron was too tightly wrapped around Lavender to notice that neither of them were ever in the common room. They usually went to library or the Room of Requirement where they would finish their homework together. Word about their relationship had spread like wildfire, everyone and their mothers knew about it, it was all over the Prophet, and it wouldn't surprise them if other countries had heard about it. It was quite overwhelming at first, for Hermione more than Harry, but they eventually had gotten used to it.
The Christmas holidays were fast approaching and, as usual, Harry was going to sign up to stay at Hogwarts when Hermione was struck with an idea...

- Hermione's POV -
I ran over to Harry just as he was about to sign up to stay at Hogwarts for the holiday.
"Harry! Harry, wait!" I wrenched the quill out of his hand at the last second. "Harry won't be staying at Hogwarts this Christmas, Proffesor." I told Professor McGonagall. I saw a glint in her eyes as she nodded and turned away from us so the other children could sign up.
"Hermione, wha-? Do you want me to go back to the Dursleys?" He stared at me in disbelief.
"Of course not! You're coming to my house this Christmas. And don't think about saying no. I've already asked my parents and they've said they don't mind. They actually want to meet you so it's out of the question whether you want to or not." I told him firmly, trying to laugh at his expression changing so quickly from disbelief to shock.
"But, Hermione, I can't do that! It's Christmas, I'd be invading your family's privacy!"
"Oh don't be ridiculous, besides like I said, you don't really have a choice." I said, smugly, folding my arms across my chest, a triumphant look on my face.
He raises his eyebrows, "What if I refuse to leave the school grounds?" "Then I will pertrify you, magically pack your trunk for you, and levitate your body and trunk to my house. Now you had better go and pack, we leave in two days mister." I told him.
He turned around and marched up the stairs into the boys dormitories, muttering "Wow, Christmas with an actual family. I can't believe it." I chuckled and went into my dorm so I could pack myself. I couldn't wait to spend Christmas with Harry!
