Ted's POV:
Some days later
Today was the day! I was so happy, but also nervous at the same time. When the gang reached the hotel and found out there was no alcohol they all went crazy! I knew this was going to happen. But I was still happy. I had enough time, so I checked if everybody was there. Yes, everybody was there! No... Wait, Robin wasn't here! I went over to the table, where Barney, Marshall and Lily were sitting and told them about it. "I have to invite her! She's my best friend!" Marshall and Barney looked angry and pointed at theirselves. "OK, my female best friend!" The others didn't agree with me, they said that it was weird to invite your ex to your wedding. But I still called her up and invited her. She said she was going to come, which made me happy. When I told Stella about it, she thought it was a bad idea, so I suggested to invite Tony, too, but she said that would be even worse. But I didn't listen to her and still picked him up from his place.
A little bit later
"Ted, it was no good idea to invite me", Robin said to me. "Yes, it was, you're my best friend, you deserve to be here, too!" "Yes, but I'm your ex!" "But we broke up a year ago!" "Well, that's not that long ago. Watching you marry another woman wasn't exactly something I was looking forward to. And I don't know, if I ever changed my mind about marriage and kids, it would be nice to know that you're there." "So, I was your safety school..." "No, it's not like that..." "Why are you even bringing any of this up, there's nothing between us anymore!" "Well, maybe there is!" I looked at her confused. Wait, did she still have feelings for me? "I - I mean, of course there is! That kind of stuff doesn't just disappear! Look, I'm not just another guest here!" "Right, we used to date, but we both moved on and got what we wanted. I'm getting married and you-" "I quitted my job!" "You - what?" "I'm moving back to New York, I thought I wanted that job, but I wanna come back to my real life and I think you should go back to yours!" "What's that supposed to mean?!", I asked. She looked at me and said,"Don't get married!" I immediately got angry, but when I saw her look I calmed down. "Look, you're rushing into this", she continued,"It's like your trying to skip ahead to the end of the book- Ted, you're the most romantic guy I know, you stole a Blue French Horn for me, you tried to make it rain!" "I did make it rain!", I replied. "It was a coincidence! But after all that, this is how you're great romantic quest comes to an end?! You're just disappearing into someone else's wedding! That's not the amazing ending that you deserve!", she finished. Hearing all this from her was kinda nice, but not at my wedding! I looked at her and cleared my throat. "I love Stella, she's the one.", I said, but immediately regreted it as I saw her face. Her look was pure sadness and desperation. But I still forced myself to continue. "And if you're really feeling that way, it's a good thing you're not coming to the wedding." Then I left her. She tried to stop me, but I just went faster. Holy shit, Ted, what did you just do?!
When I got to the room I shared with Stella, I wanted to talk to her. But the only thing I found was a piece of paper on the bed, which said, "I decided that I should be with Tony. I'm really sorry, Ted. - Stella"
