My friends split up after leaving the cafeteria, each of us going to our respective classes. I had history with Lorna, so we walked together. "So, what's this Alex was telling me about you having a crush?" Lorna asked.

"It's cool if I kill your boyfriend, right? Because sometimes he's an asshole," I said.

"You have my permission. But come on! Tell me," Lorna said, nudging me. "Who is it?"

"It's no one, I swear on my life," I told her. "Why is everyone so obsessed with finding out if I'm into anyone?"

"Because it's rare and you deserve a relationship," Lorna told me as we neared the class.

"Well then I guess it sucks that I'm going to die alone," I replied.

"You are not! Come on Alexis, live a little. Fall in love with the wrong people, be out there, let yourself feel the bliss that comes with being with someone you feel is perfect for you," Lorna said, making gestures with her arms as she spoke.

"How did you end up with Alex? Like you speak so eloquently and have so much passion, and then there's Alex who's a dork and doesn't know when to stop talking," I said.

"He's sweet and dorky and I love him," Lorna said as we walked into class.

"Take your seats, no talking," Ms. Danvers barked as soon as we walked in the door. Lorna and I gave each other a look before going to our seats in the back of the class. Lorna sat next to me, a lucky coincidence once Ms. Danvers gave us a seating chart. Taking shield behind the people sitting in front of us, Lorna sent me a text.

L: I guess Gabe wasn't kidding when he said his class pissed her off.

A: Ikr?! I thought she would've simmered down during lunch

L: Danvers has no chill today

A: Bet we're getting book work today

L: Most likely

L: SHES COMING PUT LE PHONE AWAY I REPEAT HIDE YOUR PHONE ALSJDNWKSO

Hiding my phone in my pocket, I turned over to look for Ms. Danvers. Sure enough, she was walking right towards us. "Ladies, you know my policy on phones," she said. 'If looks could kill, I'd be dead a thousand times,' I thought.

"Yes ma'am," I told her.

"In that case, could you tell me what it is?" she asked.

"Yes ma'am. It's-" Lorna began.

"Not you, her," Ms. Danvers said, still looking at me.

"It's no cell phones out while the teacher is instructing or giving a lecture. Any cell phones used during those times can and will be confiscated and sent to the office for your parent or guardian to pick up after school unless you need it to get in contact with them. Phones may be used before and after lecture, unless otherwise stated," I recited. Ms. Danvers had us repeat the policy so many times during the first week of school, most of us were able to recite it from memory.

"It's great to know that you know the policy, now can you tell me what is happening in class right now?"

"Well, we were waiting for instruction to begin seeing as how the minute bell hasn't rung yet," I replied coolly. Lorna looked at me with a surprised face, as normally I tried to stay on all the teachers' good sides.

"Put the phone away Kyle, and lose the attitude before I send you to discipline," Ms. Danvers said before turning away. Lorna looked at me and mouthed 'wow'. I simply shrugged and faced forward as the minute bell rang.
