Two more chapters after this and then this book is over. I can't believe how quickly this is going. I've been working on this since before my Sophomore year and now I'm a Junior. Anyways, this chapter is a bit short but oh well ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Fan art time then:

Selina said nothing, just looking out the window before motioning for me to sit down on the bed beside her. I chose not to and instead sat in front of her on the floor. "Selina, I need to know what really happened to my parents. If you won't tell me, there's no doubt that there's someone who will."

"No, it's better if you hear it from me," Selina said with a dejected sigh. She was looking off in the distance again, just spacing out as she tried to collect her thoughts. My own mind was racing, not sure if I was ready to hear the actual truth. I had been completely content with the version that I had been told by the police, my aunt, everyone, but now that I knew that was all a fabrication, I needed to know the actual truth. But was it actually worth it? It was too late to back out now, I knew that the second that Selina turned back to look at me. "I figure that I should start at the beginning," Selina said.

"Maggie and I were orphans, you already know that. She was younger than I was, maybe eight or nine at the time. I thought we could live on our own, survive out on the streets. I made a habit of stealing for us whenever I could for whatever we needed. Bread, milk, water, any kind of food, blankets, clothes, whatever. It became too much, having us constantly moving so we wouldn't be caught by the cops and turned over to CPS and foster care. I knew that they wouldn't want to keep us together, they never want the older kids, and I didn't want to abandon Maggie, especially since our parents had just died. She needed something from her old life, and I wanted to be that something.

After a few months like that, not even a full year, I knew that I couldn't provide the stable life that Maggie needed. The streets were no place for a kid like her, so young and innocent, so trusting. She wouldn't have lasted, and I wouldn't have been able to protect her forever. I left her in foster care, hoping that she would have a shot at a normal life. She was begging me not to leave her, crying that she wanted to stay with me, but I left her and went back to the streets," Selina stopped, getting choked up.
