After isolating myself for the weekend and repressing my feelings (as is normal for someone like me), I was able to face Dick without that sinking feeling taking hold of me and turning me into a blushing, stuttering mess or a completely depressed mess. But, going on to more important things, the big day had finally arrived. Alex and I had been practicing like crazy all week: going into the choir room to practice before school, during lunch, and for half an hour after school every day, as well as going to Alex's house for a few hours after school to practice even more. It was Friday again, and Alex and I were running through our song one last time before call time. The talent show was being held in the auditorium, which was pretty close to the choir and band rooms, where our friends were already waiting for the show to start, despite being over half an hour early.

"Okay, is everything cool?" Alex asked me as we put down the microphones and began cleaning up the equipment that we were using.

"Yeah, I think we're good," I replied, sitting down to swap the sneakers I had walked to the school in for a pair of heeled booties. "Our stage presence is boss, our vocals are as good as we could get them, and obviously we look amazing so we have that going for us too."

"Alright, we should probably go check in before we get disqualified for being late," Alex said, smiling at my comment. I nodded, grabbing my shoes so I could drop them off with Gabe before the show started. Talent show was very different than choir performances, even the solos that happened before every choir level's set. With choir, we were expected to just stand still, be on our best behavior, yet still show excitement and such in our faces, and the solos were much of the same, but with a bit more freedom. Talent show was a different beast entirely: anything goes, you could use your body as much as you wished. In fact, it was expected for acts to have a larger than life stage presence. The change was definitely a bit difficult, but with Alex's charisma and my, well, whatever it is that I have, we were able to manage it and put together a pretty good act (according to us at least). We got to the auditorium just in time to see one of the stage managers calling roll. I gave Gabe my sneakers (basically throwing them at him) while Alex ran to go check us in.

"Good luck up there, I know you're going to kill it," Gabe told me, putting my shoes on top of Jaydon's sports bag.

"Thanks, I'll see you guys after the show, I think Miranda is about to blow a fuse if I don't get up there," I said, pointing to one of the stage managers that was currently yelling at an act that had been a couple minutes late.

"Yo, how do you think you did on the AP exam?" Lorna asked, leaning forward a bit to talk to me. We had basically just gotten out of the test, Alex and I running from the exam room to the choir room to get in our final practice while the others went to the auditorium.
