Val was already gone by the time Darcy woke up and head to have some breakfast. Even though she'd set an alarm, he still beat her.
She'd screwed up at the alumni event. She trailed her lips and remembered the kiss, Val kissed her. Bloody hell, she kissed back. She could feel her cheeks heated up and shook the thought. Of course, work came first.
Val has priorities, unfortunately it looked like she's the least of them. But the kiss still lingered in her mind, how can she pretend it never happened?
It's impossible.
She tried her best to forget. She went to prepare her breakfast, a more complicated recipe could distract her off. She reminded herself to set the alarm thirty minutes before the usual time. If she could catch him before he head to work, they could talk or share a laugh, that could help put them back together, as life partners. Just.
The next morning, she missed him again, and then the next and for the whole week, she went on missing him.
Is he avoiding me? Her eyes widened, or is he already getting rid of her?
She noticed the three declined events she inserted into his social calendar, "Oh Bullocks—". She startled when he came out of his bedroom one morning that she realized she was right of him avoiding her.
"Good morning" she beamed despite of his guarded expression and the fact that she's awake at five in the morning. Finally, he's still here, she rejoiced inwardly.
"Morning," he murmured and went past through her to get some coffee. Stunned, she watched him went into the lift. She promised to herself not to be affected, and stop thinking about him so instead she reminded herself about her job, which is her primary responsibility in the marriage.
Darcy spent the day with the staff, tasking and managing them about the weekly household, and then interviewed some more for additional workforce to handle a gigantic house. She realized she enjoyed organizing Val's life. She took a slight flashback at the alumni night, she'd directed social interactions with potential dealers, recovered from a humiliating price tag that caught her dress to fail and smiled through dinner with her husband's ex-girlfriend.
She was amazing, she regarded herself, what more can Val ask for a wife?
At around five in the afternoon, Val had texted her that he'll be late at work, and instead have dinner plans for herself.
For the whole week, Val was obvious to keep distance from her.
Annoyed from his husband's immaturity, she heard that her aunt Amelia is in New York and invited her for dinner together. Darcy ordered for a cook service from Daniel's, one of the prestigious restaurants in New York so she and her aunt Amelia had braised ribs, roasted red wine chicken and lobster tails—all five star worthy.
Her aunt talked wildly about the food, about Darcy's whirlwind marriage, about how much Cindy wanted to go to New York for college.
"Why'd she wanted here? She liked England." Darcy was surprised.
"She wanted to get close to you Darcy, she missed you." Amelia replied.
Darcy smiled remembering her sister, her enthusiastic vibe and innocence. Cindy's stupid ideas got Darcy into being in an instant wife. Amelia reached for her hand and smiled.
