Darcy knew she could do something. She knew that last night wasn't the end until she figure this all out. Val's secretary emailed her a copy of the divorce papers early this morning but she still couldn't sign it yet. She still got to finish what she started. And before her marriage ends, she must at least return the favor.
"Mrs.Rossini!" a lady from the desk called her, though the thought of being called still married to him, made her heart sank more.
She stood up from her chair and acknowledge the lady. "Mr. Leo Humprey is ready to see you," the lady smiled and gestured her to his door.
Leo's office was very artsy as opposed to Val's. Abstract paintings everywhere, the colorful walls, the creative concept of what a nerd's room looks like. She went inside and saw Leo's welcoming smile.
"Hi Darcy!" he stood up from his desk and went closer to her, offering her the sofa at his guests' area at the center of the room. "How are you?" Leo asked still plastering the big smile on his face.
"I'm okay, Leo. And how about you?"
"Busy as always--"
"Oh I am so sorry to disturb you"
"No,no, no. It's ok. It's very lovely to see you again in person, I only catch up with you mostly at skype or at the phone. So, what brought you here?"
Darcy could feel her heart pounding hard as she shifted on her seat to find a slight relief of comfort to this action.
"I came here to talk you on something, it's about Val."
Leo's face dropped. "I'm sorry Darcy but I have decided. Leo doesn't really care about the business he only wants what he wants."
Darcy was totally aware of that.
"Actually,he is really good. I already talked to you on this and..."
"and I do believe you about it Darcy, but this man has an ego bigger than him."
She gulped, again, she is totally aware of that.
"But I hope you could give him another chance, he have worked so hard to achieve this deal Leo. I have witness every single bit of it and I know he is worthy. He's just... preoccupied." That wasn't exactly the word she was meaning to say. But how can a decent man like Leo understands such complicated situation. "I know you both deserve each other, you two could be a great team and I don't just know it. I believe on it."
"Darcy,I cannot let myself deal with this man."
"Leo,please, reconsider. I will do anything to help him, I screwed it up.I was the reason why he's preoccupied. I wanted to do something, I wanted to help him."
Leo took a time to looked at her, then grabbed her hand, "Darcy, I believe you have a good heart and I admire you for what you did."
Darcy was surprised, "Did what?"
Leo smiled, and sighed. "You don't deserve this Darcy. I will agree to this deal but I want to ask for you in return."
"Leo?What do you mean" still surprised she couldn't believe what she was hearing.
"Be with me Darcy."
"What?"
"I want you to be with me. I knew about how this all got started and I know you are not worthy of this kind of situation. I knew you were in a matchmaking site and Val bought you to be his wife. I knew you signed for a convenience marriage and I knew you all did this for your sister."
Darcy couldn't help but shut up. The revelation was too much.
"But don't worry I kept it confidential. I don't want you to know that I know. The very moment I laid eyes on you trying to get yourself drunk, I got interested on you. From that moment I knew you are the type of woman I would like to have, and you never keep failing me.You don't deserve this shit Darcy, you deserve a real marriage, you deserve a real love."
Teary eyed she gazed at Leo. It was too good to be true, the man she never expected to even noticed her had a hidden feelings for her. But she remembered, she was still married, and still in love with the man she can't have.
"B-but I... Leo, why are you saying this?"
"Because I know when the right time comes, it comes. I waited for this chance Darcy. If only I knew about that matchmaking site I could've tried, but I never believe on those crappy things. I only believe in what we feel, and love doesn't cost a thing, and we all deserve that—you deserve that."
She blinked a couple of times, just to make sure she wasn't hallucinating. But it was true, Leo was proposing his love for her in return of the deal which leaves her to choose what's best.
"Just say yes and Val gets his deal back." Leo said, still gripping Darcy's hands.
She looked at him, trying to find something real, something that could make her happy, something that could all make sense, something that she needed.
Matt came into Val's office, all happy and excited. "What's to be excited about?" curiosity got him to ask.
"We got it back!" Matt enthusiastically handed him a paper, "Leo Humprey's re accepted our proposal! We are perfectly back on track, dude!"
Val stared down at Leo's signature, it should be a relief but it wasn't. He was surprised on what got into Leo's mind to get in back? Maybe he had figured out something or maybe he did believed on him.
"This calls for celebration! Come on, what's to hustle? We need a break! You need a break! Let's grab some dinner, and feel great!"
Val was convinced, he knew all his efforts was paid. He knew he deserved it at all cost. He closed his laptop and grabbed his briefcase, suddenly his phone vibrates and again a picture of Darcy came out of his screen. It was another reminder, he needs to be in his monthly dentist appointment. And then there it was, the feeling he always denied himself to, he misses her. But he knew she could be better without him, they could do better away from each other.
So he pressed cancel and went out of his office.
"Mr.Rossini!" Mrs. Lewitt stopped him before heading out, "A fax just came in."
"What is it Mrs. Lewitt?"
His secretary handed him a folder, and looking from the way she gave it she wasn't amused. Val opened the folder and saw her signature.
