The next morning, Ponyboy and I walked to school together. We made small talk along the way. I had a pretty big black eye that I tried to cover up with my bangs. Pony said it wasn't very noticeable, but i think he was just trying to be nice. I tried to avoid confrontation with everyone. I just don't like attention. I tried to make it out of school as fast as I could when the bell rang, but someone caught up to me.
"Anna... Anna," he said. it was Two-Bit. I was afraid to face him. I'm not really sure why. I just don't want to hurt him.
"Anna!" he then yelled. He grabbed the back of my backpack in aggravation, but not too rough. I then turned around, avoiding eye contact.
"What?" I muttered.
"How could you? You lead a guy on and then you avoid him. Like that's shit!" there was hurt in his voice. I then knew that I actually hurt him. That's what I was trying not to do! Tears began to ball up in my eyes and i finally looked up at him. His face was instantly sincere as he gently cuffed his hands around my face. "What happened?" His voice was finally calm. Tears finally fell as Two waited for a response.
"Two-Bit," I spoke finally. "My mom left. I don't know where or how long, but she's gone," My voice quivered as I tried to speak. "And my dad, he lost it. He's drinking and being abusive and made me leave and-" he cut me off with a kiss. One of those magical kisses that make you feel wanted and protected.
When we broke away, he whispered, "I'll never let anyone hurt you."
