"...and then that's when Superman showed up. Let me tell you, that was the crazy part!"
It was already dark when Barry finally got home from the disastrous meeting at Mt. Justice. Too late for dinner, (well, not the food part at least. Iris always made sure that Barry had more than enough of that regardless of what time he got home) but still early enough that neither he nor Iris were ready to go to bed quite yet. Besides, if he couldn't share the latest Justice League gossip with his wife, then Barry would literally explode.
(Or, he'd probably just vibrate through the floor...again.)
"Wait, so he wasn't even invited?" Iris asked. "That's kind of cold."
"That's what I'm saying!" Barry animatedly fell backwards onto their couch. "I mean, the whole meeting was about him in the first place! Or well, it was about Superboy...but still! How did Superman just not know how Superboy was doing? He was supposed to be his mentor, and he didn't even notice Batman swooping in until it was almost too late."
Iris sat down beside him. She briefly glanced at her phone before looking back up at Barry.
"Maybe, that was the point? It seems like nobody else noticed anything either, except for Batman."
Barry let out a soft chuckle as Iris leaned up against him.
"Yeah, Batman doesn't miss much. Even I feel kinda slow next to him sometimes. I'm still trying to wrap my head around how he managed to hide four students from the league. Wally got found out after only two weeks!"
"True. But, that's not exactly fair." Iris shifted slightly. "After all, Rudy and Mary kept taking him to all of those doctors, and you thought it would be best if one of the Justice League medics examined him instead. Of course, he was going to be exposed after that."
Barry ran a hand through his hair and looked off to the side. He hadn't forgotten about that instance per se, it was just kind of shuffled to the back of his mind. Seeing as it all happened years ago, and those two weeks proved to be one of the most stressful time periods of Barry's life, (literally up there with both the death of his mother and the day of his wedding) he sort of didn't focus on all of the details too much. All that mattered was that Wally gave himself super powers, almost died, and then became Barry's student. And yes, Barry did advocate for Wally to be seen by medical professionals associated with the Justice League, but that was purely because they had experience treating Meta humans. As much as Rudy wanted to argue with him about it at the time, he couldn't deny forever that's what Wally was now. Eventually, he had to accept that his son was different now.
"Yeah, I remember that."
The conversation naturally died down after that. Barry and Iris had gotten comfortable together, and they were watching television when Iris's phone suddenly rang.
"Sorry," she sheepishly apologized, "work never stops—Oh, it's Rudy."
Barry sat up as she for her phone. He stopped her just before answering, however.
"Let me talk to him when you're done. We spoke the other night, but I need to ask him about something."
"Alright," Iris nodded. "Hi Rudy, what's up?"
Barry fought the urge to tap his foot impatiently while Iris exchanged pleasantries with her brother. That would be rude. Although, Barry didn't feel much like minding his manners when it came to his brother in law. Wally still had yet to call him, which meant that Rudolph hadn't given him back his phone like he agreed to. Honestly, Barry would have liked to have confronted Rudolph about this sooner, but with the whole surprise Justice League meeting, he hadn't been able to find the time since. Iris probably could have said something for him, however, in the midst of everything going on, it also slipped his mind to mention it to her. He would after this though.
