"Okay." Minho said, scribbling one last thing last thing on the piece of paper pressed against your back. You turned around, looking over his shoulder at the map.

"Hmm... What do you think it means?" you asked Minho.

"Dunno." he responded, checking his wristwatch. "But we better get back. The doors will be closing soon." you nodded, and the two of you began an even pace back to the Glade. Halfway, Minho looked to the ground in confusion.

"The vines..." he said, turning a circle. "They're gone! I... I don't know where they are... The vines tell us how to get back!" Minho whipped his head around, and the two of you searched as fast as you could for any marking you could have made, but found nothing. You both raised your head as you heard the large doors begin to move.

"C'mon!" you yelled, grabbing Minho's wrist and running at top speed, heading in the direction of the sound.

"I see Chuck! Newt!" Minho yelled as you neared the almost-shut doors. Cries went out through the crowd of Gladers, multiple "you can do it!"s and "RUN FASTER"s. You and Minho urged yourselves on, despite the fact you had already pushed yourselves past the limit. Your breaths became heavier, and your legs felt numb. You blinked once.

Twice.

The third time you opened your eyes, the doors had shut, blocking the Gladers from your view. Panting, you collapsed on the floor of the Maze, Minho flopped down next to you.

"We... We're gonna die." he said.

"No." you responded. "No, we're... We're gonna be okay. If we stick together, we'll survive. We have to."

"No one has ever survived a night in the Maze." Minho said in monotone, a sentence that had been repeated all to many times.

"Then we'll be the first." you said and stood up, offering your hand to the boy. He took it, and you hauled him off the ground.

"Let's get out of here. It's to open and echo-y." you said. Minho nodded.

"Should we find somewhere near the edge?" Minho asked. You nodded, and together, you took off into the fading light, then heard the noise that haunted your dreams.

You looked at Minho, wide-eyed, as he backed into the wall. Flattening yourself next to him, you said in the quietest voice you could,

"Where is it?" Minho only looked at you, slowly raising a finger to his perfect lips, (You were in the Maze! Were you really thinking of that right now?!), beckoning to the corner on the wall. Following his gaze, you realized how close the Griever was. You were silent for seconds, until a metal arm snaked around the corner and grabbed Minho.

"Y/N!" he yelled as he was yanked away.

"No!" you followed him. The Griever was holding Minho above it's slimy body, and it turned to you as you tried to slow down. You froze.

"Help!" Minho screamed at you. You looked at him, the vine above his head catching your eye, and a plan began to form in your head. You breathed out, then turned around and ran, leaving Minho alone. "Y/N!" you heard him scream after you. You found a vine and yanked on it, making sure it would hold your weight. You climbed halfway, then waited for the metal clanking of the Griever. When it came after you, you twisted the vine around your left hand, then pushed yourself off the wall.

"Minho!" you yelled as you flew past him, right arm outstretched. He knew what you were doing the minute you made eye contact, and he grabbed your forearm as you passed. The force of your speed and your's and Minho's combined weight broke him from the Griever's grasp and knocked it over on its back. You heard a sickening crack as you and Minho landed on the ground, and you realized it was your left wrist. But Minho was instantly dragging you behind him, giving you no time to pay attention to the pain. Once you were certain there were no Grievers, you and Minho stopped, panting.

"Are you okay?" Minho asked.

"Yeah." you answered between breaths. "You?" Minho laughed.

"Yeah, thanks to you. You just killed a Griever." he responded.

"I-I didn't kill it..." you said.

"Well, you saved me. No one's ever done that." Minho carefully took your hurt wrist in his hands. Together, you both leaned in, foreheads almost touching, looking at it. "You sure you're okay?" he asked, raising his head so your lips had less than an inch between them.

"Yeah." you whispered. "I think so..." And then you were kissing, Minho's arms sliding up your back. You laughed softly into his mouth.

"What?" he asked, you could taste his smile.

"Nothing." you replied. "We're just kissing... In the Maze. Quite a place to do that for the first time." Minho grinned, it reached all the way up to his eyes.

"Why, y/n..." he said, backing you into the wall. "It's the Maze. We could do anything in here."

You might take him up on that.
