After discussing the risks involving the surgery and many goodbye hugs and kisses, Collin was off to surgery for eight hours.
Cadyn and Cameron had been taken to the hospital daycare for the day so Courtney and Juice could focus solely on Collin. The pair sat next to each other in the waiting room, nervously awaiting the doctors to return.
The silence was almost too much before Courtney spoke up,"You want to tell me why you shattered your phone?"
Juice looked at her and sighed,"Six dudes on bikes shot the shop up. Rico's fine, but the place will need some work," Juice explained.
Courtney sucked in a breath,"Why didn't you tell me?"
"Your plate's full right now with all of this shit. I can handle this," Juice told her.
"And your plate isn't full with all of this shit?" She asked.
Juice shook his head,"That's not what I meant, Court."
She shook her head,"The cops handling it?"
Juice thought carefully about what he was going to say next. "Yeah, they are, but I'll have to fly back home in the next few days to handle the insurance shit." The lie burned his tongue, but he knew telling her the truth would have made for more problems than either of them needed right now.
She nodded,"I'll be fine here for a bit."
"How long did they say the surgery would take?" He asked her, hating how distant she had become.
"A few hours unless there are complications," she said, sighing before standing up. "I'm gonna go see the boys. Come get me when the doctor comes out?"
Juice nodded as she walked towards the daycare.
Hours later
Juice had went and got Courtney as soon as the doctor came out. They were sitting in a consult room as the doctors explained to them what had happened.
"The surgery went well. I was able to remove all of the tumor, but as stated before, there will be a chance of reoccurrence," Dr. Shepherd said, looking between the two of them.
"So what happens if the tumor comes back?" Courtney asked.
"We will operate again. I'm ordering checkups every three months to ensure there are no reoccurrences. He's in recovery now if you'd like to see him," he told them.
Courtney nodded,"Wait, is he," she paused, afraid to say it.
"We won't know if he's paralyzed until he wakes up," the doctor said before leading them to the room their son was in.
Courtney sat down in the chair next to his bed and held her son's hand. Juice shook the doctor's hand before they left.
"I am so damn sick of seeing hospitals," Courtney said, laying her head on the bed.
Juice put his hands on her shoulders, but she shrugged him off.
"I wish you'd let me be here for you instead of pushin' me away," Juice said, walking to the other side of the room.
Courtney scoffed,"I'm sorry I'm more concerned with my son being okay than your ego."
"It has nothin' to do with my ego. I'm your damn husband, so stop actin' like you gotta go through this shit alone. I'm here for you and our boys. I've been nothin' but loyal to you," Juice said.
"I can't deal with this shit right now," Courtney told him, looking up at him with broken eyes. He knew that was how she was. She always pushed him away when things got tough. It was who Courtney was, but it killed Juice because all he wanted to do was be there for her. He shook his head before heading out the door but not before placing a kiss on Courtney's head.
