Chapter 48: The News Editor

After escaping from Denji, Quanxi ascended to the second floor to pursue the demon hunters. Spotting her targets, she dashed forward and landed a glancing punch on Nakamura's jaw before the others could react.

"WHAT!?" Aki shouted—but it was too late. Quanxi struck both with powerful punches to the stomach, knocking them down. She then turned her gaze to the remaining conscious hunters.

Elsewhere, hundreds of bodies lay strewn across the mall, all cleaved in half by Quanxi's insane speed. Her four demons followed the trail of blood and corpses.

"HALLOWEEN!" The brain-exposed demon shouted, stepping on a puppet's neck and decapitating it.

"Stop now! Don't wander or you'll get lost!" the demon with the weird hair bun shouted. "We need to catch up to Quanxi!" It halted, noticing four figures next to a yellow car.

Kishibe: "Finally separated them from Quanxi."

Kishibe took a sip from his hip flask, glancing at Kobeni, Arai, and Galgali standing behind him.

Kishibe: "You three take care of the puppets inside the mall. I'll handle these ones."

Arai/Galgali: "Understood!"

Kobeni: "Yes!"

Weird-hair demon: "What is this? I don't even know Japanese!" She smirked, transforming her long hair bun into a magnifying glass, aiming it at Kishibe. "Found it! The demon he contracted... claws, needles, and blades. He even befriends dangerous demons! But he has nothing left to pay for the contract! Crush him, girls!"

Everyone watched Quanxi anxiously. Her eyes scanned the group but she found nothing she was looking for. She lifted her leg and, using her terrifying speed, instantly reached Power.

Quanxi: "Where's the Chainsaw Devil, little sister?"

"Huh?" Power exclaimed. Tamaoki and Kusakabe tried to punch Quanxi, but she dodged and braced a hand on the floor, kicking both in the face with her legs.

Yoshida placed his middle finger onto his left index finger, pointing at the floor.

Yoshida: "Octopus."

Immediately, a gigantic tentacle appeared—but before he could summon the demon fully, he received a roundhouse kick. He barely raised his hand to block, but the force still threw him.

After rolling across the floor, Yoshida was caught by a massive octopus tentacle.

Yoshida: "Squid."

The octopus demon immediately emitted a thick black smoke to obscure Quanxi's vision. She stared intently as the smoke slowly enveloped her. Yoshida lunged from the smoke, gripping a knife to strike from behind, but Quanxi anticipated it, spun around, and landed a back kick squarely on his head. Yoshida fell to the floor, and Quanxi quickly snatched the knife mid-air, raising it to finish him.

"Quanxi!" A deep voice stopped her, mere centimeters from Yoshida's face.

She looked up to see Kishibe, with the horned girl and the weird-hair girl as hostages. Kishibe and Quanxi locked eyes, expressionless.

{A few minutes earlier}

Elsewhere in the mall, Kurose, Tendo, and Subaru carried Pochita, escaping.

Tendo: "Was it okay to leave them behind?"

Subaru: "No choice. We need to get this demon out before the place fills with puppets!"

While running, they saw someone approaching—it was the bald guy searching for the others.
