*Evangaline's POV*

Whoever said that life was easy?

I opened my eyes to greet the morning. The sunlight peeped into the room through the blinds. It was the beginning of my second week in my new school.  School was just fine. I had made a couple of new friends and most of the kids in my school called me by "the new chick." Surprisingly, I was okay with that. I had been called worse, trust me. Although, 'chick' wasn't a very appropriate word in my vocabulary. Hmph.

My mom had remarried. I didn't even know how she fell in love with Gage, my stepfather. I couldn't believe she took such a short time to get over my dad. My dad, who still loved her immensely. I mean how can one turn away from their true love? My dad didn't so why did my mom?

I guess some things are hard for us to understand. I loved my mom, but if I could do anything which could take me to my dad, I would. Unfortunately, I couldn't even meet my dad if it was not allowed by the court. My mother won my custody and I had to move in with her new husband.

Gage was alright. At least he seemed to be. Sandy blonde hair and hazel eyes with a good physique. I guess my only problem with him was that he was way much younger than what my mom was. He was probably just in the twenties while my mom was in her late thirties. My mom, Aline, was stunning. She had dark hair and dark eyes with a naturally tanned skin. I guess most of my looks came from my mother. Just my smile, it was definitely from my dad.

I stripped off my pajamas and entered the hot shower. The hot water flowed through my spine - relaxing my tensed muscles. I could have been in the shower forever. But I had to reach school.

I just picked up a blouse with my favorite worn out jeans and a coat with it. My hair was tied in a messy bun and I fashioned my converse sneakers with it. I took a glance at the mirror and I liked what I saw - except, this wasn't me anymore. This wasn't how I used to be. And this girl in the mirror looked, well pretty. But you could see how her happiness had been drained from her body, how her eyes had lost their shine, how her lips had forgotten to smile. I sighed. If only that day wouldn't have ever happened...

Elijah's POV

I reached school in my red sports car. Caveton High School. Well it was Caveton probably because of the caves in this area. As soon as I got off, my bestfriend, Marcus, hit my shoulder with his strong hands, "You're late and she is pissed off."

"Shit." I knew I was dead meat. My girlfriend, Tiahli, had told me to come early so I could meet her before she went on her biology field trip and it was already recess now.

I searched for the school buses which were to be the transport for the Biology students. The science students were boarding the bus, all ready to start their journey to the four day trip.

I ran over to the first bus. No girlfriend. Ran over to the second one. Nope, my girlfriend was not there as well. Ran over to the third one. Where was Tiahli?

Suddenly, the corner of my eye caught something red near the bench just beside the park the buses were parked in. There she was, my red haired girlfriend, definitely looking at me furiously. Her ginger red hair was definitely striking and I guess that's what made me like her.

"Elijah! You are late, you better count your blessings that I am in a nice mood," she fumed at me.

"Nice mood, huh?" I smirked.

"Don't you dare look cute right now, why are you late?"

"Just hit my period in the morning," I joked.

She smiled and ran her fingers through my hair, "You know that we won't be meeting each other for four days. I'll miss you." She leaned and gave me a warm kiss on my cheek.

"I know, sweetheart." I said as I embraced her and kissed her forehead.

"Bye, Elijah," she smiled sweetly at me before boarding her bus. I waved at her bus till it was out of sight.

Tiahli and I weren't actually a couple. We were seniors in high school, she was the head cheer leader and I was, not the full  quarter back but the captain of the school hockey team. Tiahli and I were best friends since elementary school. So when we both failed in our own love lives, we decided to make our friendship into a relationship. However, it was a no strings attached relationship and it was no "friends for benefit." But I loved her, not as my partner but as my friend. I was still waiting my right one and so was she. I hope she came by soon.

"Hey! Elijah, we've a new girl in school, she wants to try out for the hockey team." Marcus smirked.
