Evangaline's POV
The rest of the day passed in a blur. I reached home in my black convertible. Yes, black was the shade I adored. It was as dark as my soul. It was as dark as my past and as dark as he who created those painful memories. I don't know why I liked the shade black despite all these. I guess it just represented who I was, or who I was made into.
Dinner with Gage and mom was quiet. It was just the three of us living in his house. I like the quietness and the peacefulness but sometimes the silence felt far too loud.
I missed my dad, I missed my folks. I missed everything about home but I guess things happen for a reason. Maybe it was a way for me to get over my past. Maybe this new atmosphere will help me to find myself again. I was lost. And I needed to be found again.
I slipped off to bed to welcome tomorrow. With the darkness enveloping me, I fell asleep.
I woke up to a figure looking down at me.
"Gage!" I exclaimed as I covered my chest with the blanket. "What are you doing here?"
"Nothing, your mother went to work early today so daddy is here to tell his girl to have breakfast," he smiled sweetly at me.
"OK, daddy," I imitated him. Gage was a good company when mom was not around. He was almost my age anyway so I guess we could relate to each other in some aspects of life.
I got ready, wearing my high waste jeans and crop top with a black coat. I always wore coats, no matter what. Today, I wore my Oxford boots which made me look an easy 5"10 and let my long, chestnut mane open in its natural curls.
I walked downstairs and proceeded to have my breakfast ; bacon, omelette and some toast. Not bad daddy, not bad at all.
"Is it good?" Gage inquired.
"Yep," I said with all those delicious bacon in my mouth. He flashed me a smile. His dream to be a father figure to me was creeping to success.
After breakfast with Gage, my new daddy drove me to school in his Mazda rx8, I swear boys and girls both were in awe, by Gage and his car.
"Morning Evangaline!" I was greeted by Jim. His tall figure waving at me from the distance. Jim was a really good looking guy. Ice blonde hair, honey eyes and a wide set of teeth which never failed to show. I wondered why he was still single. Maybe it was because he was a bit feminine but definitely not homosexual. I could date him if I would and I would not. No dating for me. I have tried and failed miserably. Too miserably in fact. To an extent where it still haunts me.
I swallowed my thoughts and waved back at him.
"Who was that?" Nina asked as she locked my right arm in her own. She looked pretty in her pixie haircut with that emerald green dress. She almost looked like a little elf.
"He's so cute!" Mauryn said as she locked my left arm. I never felt so comfortable. These girls definitely knew how to make and keep friends. Mauryn wore a sheer legging with a cute yellow fit and flare dress. Her hair was open like mine. Only difference was that she had straight caramel blonde hair with side bangs and I had chestnut hair - just like him.
My hair looked more Afro. I guess another characteristic from my dad who was part American African. My mom was part Mexican and part Samoan. I guess that would explain my dark features. The only Caucasian blood I had was from my paternal grand father.
I was more tanned compared to the duet walking beside me. They had paler skin but were beyond stunning.
"He's my stepdad." I gulped.
"Whaaat!" Mauryn left my hard and covered her face with a palms, "He's so young!"
"I know, apparently age doesn't matter where there is love," I managed a weak smile at her.
"Poor girls," Jim pouted mockingly as he joined us.
After my first class, which was Business, I made my way to the PEMAC room with Jim again. Unfortunately, even this time, only Marcus was present. Elijah was apparently out of school to check on the equipment in the stores.
"He'll be back by lunch," Marcus informed us. I smiled and he returned me the smile with a cheesy wink.
Jim held my arm and led me outside the room. "He's a flirt, don't fall into his trap, ever." Jim stood lecturing me outside the room.
"I see that, don't worry, I know how these boys are. Nasty creatures."
"I am glad that you do, that's another reason why I hate him. I wonder why he can't be like his best bud, Elijah."
"How's Elijah like?" I had heard of him yesterday too, not only from my friends but also from the girls in the cafeteria. Elijah seemed like a very popular guy, even more popular than the football players.
"I thought popular boys were a bit of show offs and too uptight."
"No darling, not Elijah. He is a really nice and down to earth person, unlike this ass."
Jim clearly resented Marcus. Marcus was a good looking guy but Jim was more good looking. So this hate couldn't be based off looks. Maybe it was jealousy regarding some girl. I intended to find that out soon.
"I would love to meet this Elijah." I smirked and winked at Jim.
"Ha, just make sure you don't fall for him, he is known for stealing hearts."
"Oh boy, I swear, mine is too hard to get. He will have to pay a lot to even touch my heart."
"We'll see." Jim winked.
"We'll see." I winked back.
