Evangaline's POV

I went straight to the office and collected my schedule. Geography was first followed by gym. I loved Geography. Learning about earth and it's formation was very interesting and it just broadened my knowledge. My Geography class went in a blur. Geography classes are always so interesting that you never realize when the period has ended. Next up was gym. I was pretty athletic. I mean, not the best in it, but I liked to be physically active. I was now acquainted to a lot of students.

It's definitely not hard. I am not a difficult person to talk to, yes, I am opinionated. But who isn't?

Mauryn, Nina and Jim, my newly made friends and I made our way to the gymnasium. Thank God we shared some classes. They were already my close friends. Even though I could not share my secrets and past with them. I could not share it with anyone but my best friend, Alexander. My eyes swelled up with tears as I thought of him and the dark, painful secrets associated with my past which I had buried in my heart.

"Er, girl. What's wrong?" Jim asked me in a worried tone.

"Missing home?" Contributed Mauryn.

"Yep, missing home."

Well, I am softhearted as well. It's not just home that I missed but also those painful memories stung my heart. Memories I never wanted to relive. Memories which still lingered in my mind. Memories which haunted my present and possibly my future.

"C'mon, we need to change," Nina attempted to change the topic.

We all agreed and the girls went to the girls' change room while Jim went to the males'.

"Is there something you want to tell us, boo?" Nina asked me when the three of us were alone in the change room.

"Err, I - ," I left my sentence incomplete as more girls started to come in for the gym class. "Maybe some other time."

"Whenever you feel is right, darling." Mauryn smiled.

Gym class was amazing. Jim got hurt in the nose while he was attempting to do the push ups. He had fractured his limb last week while playing for the school's hockey team.

"It's all because of Marcus, that bastard," Jim cried. "He ought to have known I am in his team."

"Well, weren't you guys wearing uniform? I mean how could he have gotten confused?"

"Oh Evangaline, we weren't. It was just a friendly match but he knows me well enough not to get confused."

"Oh, I so wanna meet this Marcus of yours," I winked at Jim.

"Hey! You know what, I think it'll be a great idea if you signed up for the girls' hockey team. You are new, it'll be the perfect way for you to socialize plus Jim, Mauryn and I are already in the team. In this way, we will always be together!"

I liked Nina's idea. I was a hockey player in middle school but I never had time to continue it to high school. I hoped I was still good at it though.

"You can sign up in the PEMAC room before the recess siren rings. I bet Elijah will be there. He is the captain for the boys' hockey team and also the coordinator for hockey in the school," Mauryn fed me with more information.

I made my way with Jim to the PEMAC room where I could sign up for hockey. We still had 10 minutes till the next class. I opened the door and Jim took me to the hockey section.

A jet black haired boy, with equally dark eyes and Caucasian skin greeted us with a smirk.

"Marcus." I heard Jim whisper against his breath.

"Hello, beautiful, I am Marcus. How may I help you?" He leaned from his seat and extended his hand towards me.

"Evangaline Esmee, I would like to sign up for the Girls' hockey team." I shook his hand formally. Marcus was a really good looking guy and seemed sweet too. But I could sense he definitely was a flirt.

"You are required to fill in this form," he said, handing me out a form, "and bring your two passport size photos with your birth certificate."

"Okay." I flashed him a smile.

Jim lightly hit his elbow to my ribs. "OK, we'll go now, thanks for the help." I smiled again.

We turned and were just about to leave the room when Marcus called out, "You will have to get it signed by Elijah by tomorrow morning though."

I gave him a thumbs up.

Elijah's POV

"What's her name?" I inquired.

"Evangaline Esmee. She wants to try out for the hockey team."

"Did you check her reference? Is she suitable to be in the team?"

"I noticed how she walks and checked her grip by shaking her hand. She seems athletic and quite strong."

"We need quality players in the squad, Marcus."

"Oh, don't be the strict captain here. She is a fine chick, man," Marcus whistled. Marcus and his thoughts. I swear he would get any girl on his bed.

"Jerk." I opened the canned soda and took a sip.

"A virgin calling me a jerk. How predictable, man."  My cheeks burned red. Nobody expected the captain of the hockey team to be a virgin. And nobody knew that I was, well except this moron who is my so called best friend.

"Shut the fuck up, dude."

"I wonder why you didn't get any action from Tiahli. She is already fuming," he winked at me.

"You know how mine and Tee's relationship is, I wouldn't take advantage of her."

"Trust me, there's not a lot of guys thinking the same as you do. If I were you, I would have gotten laid long ago."

"Trust me, not all boys are pervert like you." Marcus and I were two different poles. I wonder how did we even become best friends. He was a normal, teenage boy, always looking for action. And here I was, very practical and well, you can say boring. I loved the way I was. Which teenage boy didn't want some action in his life? I did, and my action was my sports.
