Elijah's POV
The name Evangaline lingered in my mind. I do not know how it triggered me. Evangaline.
Holy shit! I had to call Tiahli. All the day's events got to tangled up.
I dialed her number and waited for her to answer my call.
"Hello, Elijah." She greeted me with my name but I knew she was smiling.
"Hi, sweetheart, how are you doing?"
"Just fine, I miss you, dude!" Notice that hint of friendzone.
"I miss you too."
Tiahli was very clear about our relationship. We would be together till we happened to love someone else. She didn't want to get too attached to me, in case I got too attached to someone else.
We talked for a brief time. I missed her red head. And her pancakes. She used to bring me pancakes each morning and now I will have to wait till the weekend to taste it.
I got ready for school. My dark hair in its natural state. No gel. I hated that substance. Wearing my maroon v-neck tee and worn out jeans, I made my way to school.
On the way, I remembered I had to check on the sports equipment from Sports World, which is located quite near my school. Our manager had handed the responsibility for the gears on me. I would be late for school, and probably wouldn't be able to sign Evangaline's acceptance to the hockey team. Her name made my heart flutter. Just with the name? This was not normal. I really wanted to see her, especially after all what Marcus told me.I called Marcus and informed him that I will be late so he could tell Evangaline that I will sign her acceptance letter later.
After finishing checking the equipment which costed me good 3 hours, I drove to school.
"Yo! Mate," I heard my friend, Bryan call out in his Australian accent as I stepped off from my ride.
"Hey mate, 'sup?" I tried my best Australian accent.
"Nah, dude just don't." A lot of girls fancied him. More like his accent. Bryan was super tanned, green eyes and honey blonde haired. And Australian.
"Which class is next?" It was already lunch. Students scurried around the school premises and the noise rose to an annoying level.
"Business," Bryan shouted over the noise.
"Where's Marcus?"
"I dunno, maybe in the PEMAC room."
Whenever Marcus, Bryan or I got a free class, we took charge of the PEMAC section. Marcus and I were for hockey while Bryan looked after the football section. He was the captain of the football team. Naturally, we should be rivals, but we are not. None of us care about how many girls want us or how many times we can get laid though I have never gotten laid. Bryan had a girlfriend and so did I.
Reminding me of his girlfriend, she is a a hockey player too. A good one in that. Pretty girl with blonde hair. Both complemented each other well.
"Mauryn's ready for the hockey tournament?" I inquired.
"My girl is always ready," he replied with a smirk.
We made our way to the PEMAC room. Marcus was already there, sorting out the table.
"Hey bros."
"Hi."I greeted him back.
"Hello." Bryan moved to his own football section and Marcus and I started sorting out the files and checking the inventory.
We halted as we heard three quick knocks on the door.
"Come in." Bryan called out in his rich Australian accent.
The door opened slowly. The most amazing figure stood there holding pieces of paper in her hand. Dark, curly hair. Just that perfect amount of curls, perfectly toned and tanned body, she was tall and her dark eyes were somehow mysterious. She looked like a mystery herself. She was not like those girl we get to see a lot. She looked unique. She was mesmerizing.
Her perfectly shaped, full lips parted as she opened her mouth to speak. "Elijah?"
She was eyeing both Bryan and I but perhaps she guessed I am the guy she wanted to meet, seeing me with Marcus.
Marcus nudged me forward.
"Err," Hell, I was not able to say anything. I was rubbing my palms against each other and suddenly felt a sharp increase in the temperature. "E- Evangaline?"
"Yep, that's right." Her lips curved into a delicate smile. "You had to sign my acceptance letter?"
"Oh, yeah right." I grabbed the piece of paper with my hands slightly shivering. I hoped it was not so noticeable. I signed it with trembling hands only after I got a grip on the pen which was continuously slipping off my sweaty palm.
I handed the paper off to Marcus to file but kept her birth certificate with me. I tried to smile at her warmly as I placed the birth certificate on the table and wiped my sweaty palms on my jeans.
"I better get going," she said as she smiled at the occupants of the room and proceeded to exit.
"Bye," both Bryan and Marcus called out in unison. Evangaline looked over her shoulder and waved at the duo. Her eyes then traveled quickly to me and locked with my own. Her eyes delivered warmth. I smiled at her and so did she. She looked beautiful. And sad. I knew that look. Her eyes, were mysteriously sad, and attractive. Just her eyes made me lose my defenses.
"What was that, bro?" Marcus asked me teasingly as Evangaline moved out.
"I - I don't know. She is just beautiful." I said, trying to avoid any eye contact with the boys.
"You are red, dude!"
"Seems like you two already have a connection." Bryan said from his table.
I won't deny it, I was red. And it was not normal for me to blush. Blushing was feminine so I avoided blushing, at least in public. I know, that's stupid but sometimes you have to uphold that masculine status.
I did feel something when she looked at me. It was an undeniable connection. She was beautiful. However, I did not believe in anything such as love at first sight. It's ridiculous. Love at first sight definitely means falling for a person's looks and I did not believe in that. To love someone, you need to know them and to feel with them.
Evangaline's looks very truly stunning. Her eyes showered warmth to my body, it has never happened with any girl, ever. Her smile got me dangling.
But I did not know her yet. However, I did know Tiahli like the back of my hand. And she knew the inside of me. I would not lose her for someone's looks. Agreed that Evangaline was far more stunning and there certainly was a connection between us but I was reluctant to fall for her, not when I had to put Tiahli to sake.
