The door to the interrogation room angrily flew open.

The sound of the crash caused Ian to jump in fear.

His eyes were red, he had been crying. He hadn't moved from the room, as no one had told him what to do yet.

Mari glanced at the one-way glass, knowing full well there had to be at least one person behind it.

She looked back at Ian, and her gaze softened.

"Mari?"

Mari didn't say anything, she took Ian's hand in her's, and whispered, "run."

And they did.

Through the corridors and hallways and past windows and office doors. They didn't run into David, and they weren't stopped, and for that Mari thanked whatever deity there may have been.

They reached Mari's car and Ian quickly jumped in.

At that moment, Mari felt a sinking feeling in her stomach.

"Shit," she mumbled.

Her car keys were still in the building.

Mari told Ian to wait there and ran back into the building, and sneakily made her way to the interrogation room, and one door down, the room on the other side of the one-way glass.

She quietly opened it, noticing that no one remained. They must have all left to warn Anthony, or David.

She snuck in and scanned the room, seeing a set of keys thrown haphazardly onto the desk next to a computer screen.

Her hand moved to pick it up, but on the computer screen, she noticed someone had entered the interrogation room.

Her eyes lifted to the glass, and looked through it at David. His eyes were examining the empty room, and Mari could feel the anger radiating off his skin.

She didn't want to know just how bad he could get.

She snuck out of the room at the same time David left his, and when the sound of two doors closing simultaneously filled the hallway, their eyes locked.

David was furious.

"Mari," he growled.

And she flew down the hallway, panted, the keys dangling in her hand, her hair flying behind her as she dashed out of the building. She could hear David's heavy footsteps chasing her, and her heart sped quickly. She felt as of she were going to pass out.

She tore through the door and sped to her car, where Ian was anxiously waiting. She threw herself in and started it up, seeing through her eyelashes David coming closer and closer.

"Hold tight, Ian," she said, and she stomped on the gas.

The car raced out of the parking lot and onto the highway, with David's steps faltering behind it.

Mari had managed to escape, and David didn't think she was stupid enough to go somewhere he would expect her to be.

"Melanie," Mari sighed when she opened the door.

"Oh my god, you're out of breath! Are you alright?"

Ian ran and hugged Melanie tightly.

"You might want to sit down, Mel," Mari said cautiously.

*

"What? How could they think you did it?" Melanie exclaimed angrily. "Do they even have the right to hold you there?"

Mari sighed and shrugged. "All I know is that I'm in deep shit for helping Ian escape."

Melanie gasped as pulled Mari off the couch, gripping her tightly.

"Thank you so much, Mari. Thank you thank you thank you."

Mari smiled. "I would say no problem, but I've kind of gotten myself in a giant shitstorm, haven't I?"

"Yes, you have, you beautiful idiot," Mari giggled. "Good luck facing David."

"How the hell am I going to go back there? Do I just show up and pretend nothing happened? We fought in the hallway before I did it and then he saw me getting my keys."

Melanie shook her head. "Don't go back."

"But I have to if I want to be involved in the investigation," Mari sighed, dropping herself back on the couch and resting her face in her hands. "And you guys have no room to keep me here, and I live at David's place."

Melanie sat down beside her and took her hands off of her face.

"We can keep you here for about a week at most. But you need to work on finding a job and a place to live so you're not helpless when you're made to leave."

Mari nodded and sniffed, willing the tears to not fall.

"I just wish Peter were still here," she whispered.

And then she broke down, gripping onto Melanie like her life depended on it.

"Mari, Mari, I know you miss him, but you'll okay, I promise."

"This never would of happened if Peter hadn't been murdered! I never would have met David and I never would have been evicted and I wouldn't have cried as much as I have these past few weeks! I just miss him so fucking bad, god! I miss his voice and his smile and the way he called me 'babe' and his stupid cheesy as fuck speeches on Valentine's Day and I miss seeing his socks on the floor and his cereal bowl left out! I miss having lights left on and doors left open! I just fucking miss everything! I miss my life! What the hell happened to my life?"

Mari was screaming, gripping her hair and bawling as Melanie held her tight, Ian running to fill a glass of water.

"I fucking loved him and it's just not fucking fair! It's not fair!"

Mari jumped up and ran her hands angrily through her hair as she sobbed and paced.

And eventually, she grabbed her keys and ran to the door.

Where was she going?

Hell, she didn't even know.
