"THREE MONTHS?! Are you kidding?" Laney's words echoed throughout the box.
"Shh! Be quiet! They might hear you!" Emma whisper-yelled.
"Who? Who's going to hear me?" Laney said with a trace of irritation in her voice.
"Them." As she said that she pointed at something behind Laney. Laney turned around to find 3 bright blue ogres. "You can't tell, but they're ghosts. It's no use attacking them." Emma was starting to sound brainwashed.Laney didn't care about what Emma had said. But there was nothing around to fight them with; the whole box was empty. Then she saw it. A small torch on the other side of the box. She took all her strength and sprinted toward the torch. Little did she know that the ogres could run too. She ran even faster and jumped, grabbed the torch, and ran straight toward the ogres. They ran towards her too. Laney pointed the torch in front of her as they made contact. Then, they suddenly disappeared.
Laney was confused. She was angry. None of this made any sense. They shouldn't even be here. They shouldn't have to fight random monsters like it was normal. It didn't seem to be bothering Emma at all. That was the worst part. Laney lost it.
"What is going on here?! This is insane! I shouldn't have to fight blue ogres! I shouldn't even be here! Neither should you! This is all Lisa's fault, coming up with this stupid idea of a prank. I should have known she would have done something like this." Laney exploded. She was tired of all of this."What do you mean a prank?" Emma said skeptically.
"Forget I said anything." Laney sighed.
Emma and Laney walked for a while. They finally encountered the stone after a while. Laney started talking about it, while Emma walked around it a couple of times, looking at it carefully. Finally she whispered, "Hey Laney, come here." Laney walked over to her. They seemed to be on the back side of the stone. All of a sudden Emma gave it a small kick. The whole stone turned black. Then a small door opened in front of them. It was so small they had to bend over to be able to fit in the doorway. Then once they walked in, it was huge. But it was dark. They couldn't see anything. Then all of a sudden the room lit up.
A bright purple creature stood in front of them. It was about the size of the room. Then it put its 2 hands down as if it wanted Emma and Laney to stand on them.Emma stood on the creature's hand, and they both waited for Laney to get on the other. Laney carefully stood on its hand, and it started moving. It took them to another room, which was slightly smaller. The same thing happened but with a dark pink creature. Finally they reached a room that had a very small orange creature, about Emma and Laney's size. Then it started speaking some foreign language. To Laney's surprise, Emma spoke back in the same language. Then the creature led them into a space that had all kinds of books in it. It walked out, and shut the door.
"What are we doing here, and what did that thing say to you?" Laney asked.
"This place will tell us how to get out. We just need to find the right book..."
"So it's a library."
"Yes, technically."
"So what book are we looking for?"
"It's called 'Mysteries of our Planet' but it looks like this." Emma handed Laney a piece of paper with writing in the foreign language.
"Okay. But one thing."
"What's up?"
"Why were you acting all weird earlier, and how do you know how to speak the language?"
"When you're somewhere for 3 months, you learn enough of the language to get by. And I don't remember anything about earlier."
"Why didn't you say anything before about how you don't remember anything?" Laney was shocked. Her jaw hung open.
"I've been here for 3 months. The last thing I remember is walking with you. If you're been somewhere long enough without one of your kind, let along one of your friends, you don't question why you're with them. You just enjoy the fact that you have them with you."
"That explains how you were acting. You were sounding brainwashed. Your tone was off. I was wondering what happened to you."
"That's...weird. Although I do remember seeing you for a quick second. Then I think I blacked out."
