Dark Nights

Part 7

Emma, Laney, and Lisa ran for miles before finally stopping. They didn't take anything with them when they left. They walked to Emma's house. They walked through the door with torn clothes and messy hair.
"Emma! What happened to you and your friends?" Emma's parents spoke in unison.
"Long story... We don't want to talk about it... Just don't make us hang out with Mackenzie..." Emma hardly got the words out.
"I don't care if you want to talk about it or not. What happened?" Emma's mom spoke by herself this time.
Lisa and Laney told them them everything. Emma was too upset to say anything. Emma's mom didn't believe them at first. Then Laney did something none of them expected.
She pulled the stone that powered the box out of her pocket and handed it to Emma's mom. It had the pattern and aura just as they had described it.
Emma's mom immediately ran out the door, got into the car, and drove off.

Emma's mom parked in front of Mackenzie's house. She pounded on the door. Emma's dad answered.
"Mrs. Robinson! What a nice surprise. Would you like to come in?"
"No, because you're going to try to kill me like your daughter did to mine."
"What are you talking about?"
Emma's mom pulled out the stone and showed it to Mackenzie's father. Upon seeing this stone, he grabbed her shoulder and forced her inside.
"So I see you have figured out our secret. You should be proud. Nobody's ever figured it out." Mackenzie's dad then acted like Mackenzie, with his eyes gleaming and teeth showing. Although he was much more powerful.

Emma's mom, instead of running, took a sword off the wall (that was there for decoration) and braced herself. Mackenzie's dad charged at her and Emma's mom stuck the sword out. She stabbed him in the stomach. He fell to his knees and grabbed his stomach.
"That's what happens if you mess with anyone I know. Especially my daughter." Emma's mom walked out of the house, got into her car, and drove back home. She acted like nothing happened.
