December

December is the twelfth month,
Now, how it came to be in that spot,
I have no clue
especially since Dec means ten, or tenth
So in reality,
It would make more sense to me.
If December were the tenth month instead.
Supposedly, at one point, December was the tenth month,
So, how did it come to be in the twelfth month
Location, I am not sure
But I do know
That is how it has been
for as long as I can remember.
I was born in this winter month,
one where it often rains,
sometimes the sun shines,
And on some rare occasions, it snows
as the winter wind blows.
December is when many churches have Children's Christmas plays,
There is caroling,
and a Christmas party,
or two, or more,
As many rush off to find things from the store;
things for a loved one's presents.
How did the tradition of gift-giving come about?
Well, there is no need to shout,
But I must say,
It all started not long ago,
on that very first Christmas day,
When the shepherds saw the Christ child in the bed
made of hay.
When Christ was in the house with Mary,
and Joseph her spouse,
The wisemen came from afar,
saying "we have followed the star,
that foretold of the Messiah's coming,"
and they presented to him,
gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh,
gifts that suited a king.
Only Jesus was not just any king,
He was and is,
the King of Kings,
the Prince of Peace,
the Lord of Lords,
the Messiah,
and he is the reason,
We celebrate the season.
The gifts the wisemen gave
is the tradition
Many follow when they give gifts
to their family and friends,
on Christmas Day.
December is full of shopping,
food
and much, much more,
But what does it really hold in store?
December is the month,
Jesus is said to have been born as God in the flesh (John 1:14)
in Bethlehem,
And he grew up
to die on the cross at Calvary,
as recorded in the Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John)
and did so for you and me,
as he stretched out his hands,
and his feet.
He was buried in a borrowed tomb,
and he rose again (Matthew 28:6, also found in Mark, Luke, and John)
And that is what Christmas is all about people.
Without the cross,
There is no forgiveness of sin,
without the cross
No one can be born again,
and without the cross
There is no true meaning of Christmas.
Merry Christmas!
Christmas, Christmas!
Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas to one,
and to all.
