A Distorted Lens_1.
Thrump.
"Hm?"
He slowly raised his head up as his arm softly pushed the mouse, making the computer turn on. He winced as the blue light shone in the darken' room... it was the only light.
He looked away and tried clearing his eyes. Then, another light emitted into the room. It was his phone. It started buzzing with messages.
His brows furrowed together as he reached for it, and without checking what those messages could be, he turned it off and threw it on his bed.
His eyes now slowly went back to the computer. It had a simple picture of a little mantis munching on something. He tilted his a bit and widened the picture in full.
When the full picture was shown, he didn't seem fazed. He just sighed and massaged his temples.
He removed the USB cord that was plugged to his camera and took his camera with him as he walked over to his bed.
He sat at the edge and started checking what was in it. But it seemed he just kept clicking next, eyes dull.
None of it seemed interesting to him. But he kept clicking next as though he would find something worth looking at. Something worth giving purpose. A muse.
...
Nothing.
No more pictures came through. He'd reached the end. He looked up at the computer again, eyes squinted a bit. Then his eyes went back to the camera.
It signalled a low battery and soon after turned off.
He saw a bit of his reflection on the camera.
Who– He paused.
Then the door suddenly opened wide. A lady stood there. It was one of their servant. She forced a smile as she walked in, her eyes darting to every part of the room like she had just entered a new world.
"Uhm... young master... his um..." she cleared her throat due to her shaky voice. Looking down, she continued. "They are all waiting for you for breakfast."
He didn't say anything and just stared at her weak attempt to look unbothered. A small glint appeared in his eyes.
They're always like this.
He sighed.
He didn't move an inch from his position.
The servant tried to look up but immediately looked back down as she saw his eyes on her. It was like it kept her in place.
"Y-young mas-master, if y-you'll–"
"Alright."
She flinched.
"You can leave now,"
She nodded as she immediately scurried away.
The glint that appeared in his eyes immediately turned dull. He stretched and picked up his phone. Unlocking it, he was met with a picture of a school he had looked up earlier.
His lips curved up small at the side.
He tossed it back down and stood up.
As the door shut, the light from the computer stayed on.
The picture still there, unmoving as the light dimmed to off.
A picture of a mantis preying on a moth with lavender and violet wings.
Then, darkness returned to the room as the computer turned off. The still silence continued and formed an air around the room, like a bubble.
With what he had in mind, he had hope his father would grant him his request.
A simple request to change schools.
To the one he was now looking forward to going.
