Take the time you need,
but do not take your life –
they whispered while the candles
flickering against her knife.
But shadows gathered quietly,
circling her spark,
and every breath she took
was borrowed from the dark.
Take the time you need,
even if it's like the end –
the night grew hungrier
than any charm could mend.
She wandered like a trembling spell
across a moonless sea,
her footsteps turning hollow
where the light refused to be.
Take the time you need,
even if you think you die –
but her heart dimmed softly
beneath the iron sky.
The darkness spoke her language,
a whisper cold and stark,
she answered without meaning to,
and falls deeper into dark.
The people said,
"She's strong enough;
she'll make it through the storm."
But storms can swallow quietly
things meant to be stayed warm.
They reached for her,
but distance grew –
a slow, encroaching mark.
She drifted past their fingers,
drawn further into dark.
In the end,
she lost –
her breath,
her fragile fight.
The shadows closed around her,
sighing softly with delight.
She's dead,
she's taken inward
where no lanterns ever spark –
a silhouette of longing
now belonging
to the dark.
Her voice turned into echoes,
her smile into a spark
that flickers in the dusk wind
but never breaks the dark.
They call her in the daytime
yet cannot pull her near –
she slipped beyond their reaching,
past moon and atmosphere,
to where the night grows endless
and the world can't follow here.
