Na'vi x teenage neutral reader

A young teenager named y/n, has been living alongside the scientists their whole life.
Their childhood was filled with experiments and laughter—strange, bright, scientific memories—but also a constant sense of wonder.

Since you were young, you admired the clan that you lived nearby, the Na'vi.  The way they stood tall and confident just made your eyes sparkle with admiration and the need to be seen by them, especially warriors. The warriors, for example like Tsu'tey, rarely gave their approval, and even rare is understatement. He was proud and confident about what he was doing. Who wouldn't be? He was raised to be that way, to be strong and capable, to lead their clan to victory against the sky people.

Or maybe you just wanted new friends, even if some random person! But that seemed almost impossible to you as they never let you near, hissing at you, their tails thrashing behind their tall frames.

The scientists felt bad for you, they knew you only wanted to belong or be seen too..
You had been learning their language,  the meanings of their signs,  their traditions and even what each bead on songcord meant!

They were too shy though, never going closer than ten feet apart. You always watched from a distance, you loved their hunting strategies,  or even smallest ceremonies. Those just...felt special for you, you didn't know why since you were human, but you just felt, warm whenever you just watched.

You loved the way the fire danced within the circle, its glow shimmering across the bodies of the avatars gathered around it.

And for this reason alone, the Na'vi tolerated your presence by now. They always said something in their language and you didn't understand,  you weren’t that far in learning yet. And when you asked the scientist,  preferably Grace, she hummed. She translated it every time, each time you came back with new word. But the favourite one, the one you put as your code name was when they called you "little shadow."

I can as well explain why you got the name, hm?
Alright then, listen up human.

Those Na'vi although proud and wild, were observative. They watched you even if they wouldn't admit it. They noticed the way your steps grew quieter, quicker just like theirs was. Others said you even tried learning to hunt like them, little dagger in hand and always apologised to the animal and still missing the target. That was the favourite story near fireplace to tell, you were quite known along them.

That was actually the first time you heard the nickname too, you and Grace were near, helping with the Na'vi's supplies since theirs has ran out and the lab still had lots to spare.  You were behind Grace, curious as you watched the Tsahik look you two over. It was the first time no one hissed at you or started getting cautious in your presence.

You could even see the little spark of amusement in her eyes as she greeted you "I see you, Little shadow."

The way your eyes lit up? It was like christmas tree. The pure gasp of shock and joy made both Grace and Mo'at let their serious faces fade.

So as the clumsy teenager you were, you used all your lessons that you took about greetings, and lightly bowed you head in her presence and greeted her back, making the Tsahik raise an eyebrow...almost proud. Almost.
