Wow. That is the only thought that goes through my mind as me and Natalya kiss for a really long minute. Natalya breaks apart with a gasp and smacks me across the cheek. “Ow!” I yell rubbing my stinging cheek.
“What in the world do you think you are doing?” Natalya rages.
“I was helping you. A thank you would be nice!” I yell indignantly.
“I will not thank you!” She yells. “You kissed me when I’m with David!” she whispers madly.
“Well sorry next time I’ll let you keep being crazy!” I yell pushing past her upset.
“Jack, wait!” Lila yells pushing past Natalya’s shoulder really hard. I storm off, throwing words over my shoulder as I walk away, “When you’re ready then come back out to the chair.” I yell angrily. I’m part mad because of how she blows me off, and the other part of me is just trying to cover up my embarrassment. Lila catches up with me as I exit the hidden tunnel. “Look Jack. Forget her. She isn’t important we don’t need her.” Lila reassures me laying her hand on my shoulder. I shrug her off, and shake my head, trying to get my head back on the plan. “We do need her Lila! But if our two groups can’t get along then we have no one that we can trust and that’s not good.” I reason still fuming.
“Look Jack I just don’t want to see you get hurt.” Lila whispers and then walks over to where Will is waiting at his station. I sigh and turn away. What is going on? My mind is like a maze or a puzzle. I shake my head trying to clear it. I move so my back is on Lila so she won’t be able to see how upset I am. I walk to the corner of the big room to where there are several empty desks and I sit down in the desk closest to the big chair. As I log in to my account I can feel Lila and Will’s eyes on my back waiting to see what I’ll do. I rub my eyes and I put my head in my hands. Ugh. I’m so tired I need to sleep for several years. I’m so upset and confused that I don’t hear someone coming up behind me until that person taps me on my shoulder. “Um, Jack. Can I talk to you?” Someone asks behind me.
“What?” I mumble.
“Well I know what you did.” I look up to see David standing over me.
“Look, I’m sorry. I was just trying to help.” I explain tired.
“Relax Jack I’m not mad. I get why you did what you did.” David reassures me. I nod, unable to speak.
“Jack what’s wrong?” David asks.
I shake my head. “Nothing.” I answer feeling like I’m going to be sick.
“Are you sure?” David asks, “You look really bad.”
“I’m fine.” I snap. I breathe through my mouth, and I try to calm my racing heart. “I’ll be back in a sec.” I answer almost blacking out just by saying those few words. “Ok.” David says frowning. I stand up and the room starts spinning and I fall back into the chair. My head feels like someone is taking a hammer to my skull with each breath. “Wow. Careful, Jack.” David warns. I squeeze my eyes close without bothering to answer. “What’s wrong?” Someone ask David.
“I don’t know. Jack stood up and fell back down. He says he's fine but he doesn’t look so good.” David replies.
“Jack, its Lila can you hear me?” Lila asks. All of their voices sound like they are coming from the other end of a really long tunnel. “I...” I bend over holding my stomach, and I try not to black out. “Jack!” Lila whispers. But I’m pretty sure that she yelled it. “Jack what’s wrong? Please talk to us and we can help you!” Lila is still “whispering.” I slowly shake my head, but that just makes me even dizzier and the pain in my head worse. “Jack...” I black out before I can hear the rest of what Lila is trying to say.
