As we follow Jack who is following the girl, I search his face for any flicker of any kind of emotion, but his face is like a stone mask. Jack is one of the few boys that no matter what he does he can hide his emotions so well behind a mask that not even I can read him. After David had explained to me what happened after I blacked out, I felt guilty about how I reacted when I "woke up." But I'm too embarrassed to apologize to Jack. I sigh and look away. David next to me keeps glancing in my direction like I might explode into flames. "David, I'm fine. You don't have to treat me like a poor lost pup." I whisper so Jack won't hear.
"I know but I'm worried about you." David whispers back, taking my hand in his.
"I know. Thanks." I say, smiling. David nod, silent and turns to look ahead.
"Where are you taking us?" Jack asks the girl up ahead.
"To the problem." The girl whispers over her shoulder.
"Ok, but I thought you said that it was close by." Jack complains. "Don't have time for this! I have to prepare for tonight."
"Don't worry. We'll be back in time." The girl reassures us.
"What is your name?" Jack asks.
"Thats not important." The girl replies
"Actually it does." Jack retorts, stopping. "I won't go anywhere with you until you start explaining."
"Come on! What I have to show you is just ahead. Once you see it, I will tell you everything that you want to be answered." The girl whines. Jack shakes his head and crosses his arms across his chest. "Jack, come on! The sooner we see what she wants us to see, the sooner we can go get ready." I reason.
"I don't care! We are not going any further than this, until she explains." I shout angry.
The girl heaves a big sigh and says, "sorry Jack. I've sent you on a wild goose chase!" With a snarl the girl throws something on the ground and when the smoke clears the girl has disappeared. "Whoa. That was weird." Jack calmly states. Jack turns around and gives me a crooked smile. "What?" I demand.
"Nothing." Jack says brushing past me with a wink. I sigh and follow behind Jack as he leads us back the way we came.
