Chapter two

The school bell rang and we all piled out of the gym. I had my schedule taped to the inside of my school planner, but I knew I wouldn't have to look at it. I already had my new locker combination along with my schedule memorized, and a familiarization with the classrooms from last year. I glanced around at all the new seventh graders again. Most were quite unappealing, and others were dressed to the nines. There was only like two remotely attractive boys I saw, but then on the optimistic side of things, this was only first hour. I would be passing seven more times through the hallway. Hopefully there was more to see than this.

After throwing my crap into my new disappointing bottom locker, I headed to my study hall period in the gym. Once I got in there I looked around for Jimmy, Lucas, and Talia. Those people, well they were my best friends. I hadn't seen a lot of my friends over the summer since I only had a few weeks of summer at home. Jimmy never was able to leave the house and go anywhere; Lucas was with his girl all summer so I only saw him like six times that whole month, and Talia was who I spent almost every day with.

"Cece!" I heard a long bellow echo across the gym walls. I spun around to see exactly who I knew it would be. Jimmy came thrashing in with his black longish hair swaying backwards from his speed. I braced myself for the attack hug coming my way. I let out an oof as his body crashed into mine and he spun me around. I laughed and he sat me down my heels again. His first day of school outfit was nicer than usual. Instead of baggy basketball shorts he stole from his older brother; he wore a pair of jeans and an Aeropostale tee shirt. He had his Steelers football logo hat tucked in between his arm, probably because they told him to take it off once he got into school.

"Did they make you take your hat off?" I asked with a knowing grin. He laughed.

"Yeah, did you hear that the dumb ass, Mr. Dillard is moving up to the high school with us next year?" Jimmy asked. Jimmy was the ultimate curser out of the group. He cursed more than he breathed.

"Ew, no way!" I protested. Everyone hated Vice Principal Dillard. He was so annoying, and even worse, his nipples always perked through his tight shirts. Jimmy nodded pursing his lips together showing that it sucked but it was true. I felt hands grab my sides and pulled away quickly as I squealed an obnoxious sound and jumped forward. I spun around to see Lucas smiling his huge toothy smile in my face with his brand new braces attached to them.

"Hey!" I exclaimed. "You wore the shirt you said you were gonna wear!" I pointed out to his blue and white long sleeved plaid shirt. We were on the phone last night rambling before we went to bed.

"And you wore your usual emo... whatever... today!" He replied smiling as he moved his hand as to show my outfit.

"I'm not emo." I told him squinting.

"Yeah, get it right Lucas!" Talia backed me up spooking me from behind. I turned around and hugged her even though I had just seen her, like two days ago.

"Sorry, but you always dress like you're going to a funeral." He sarcastically apologized. We all laughed and I nodded somewhat agreeing with what he had just said.

"Alright everyone, take a seat in the first four rows of the bleachers here!" Coach Knightly exclaimed as her manly voice echoed on the walls. I glanced around at my friends beckoning them to follow as I moved down to the second row of bleachers. Coach Knightly called role and told everyone they were getting assigned seats tomorrow. I rolled my eyes. The class moaned and groaned, and then the bell rang and I was out to report to my second year on the Yearbook staff.

"Cece, Cece! Sit here!" Jason called from the table in the back of the bland room. I plopped my stuff down on the desk next to Jason who I became really close friends with this year. I observed the unchanging room to see if anything new had been hung up. Just like any other class room there were inspiring posters hung on the wall, dull metal cabinets, a cluttered desk, cardboard boxes with assignments organized within, a few computers on a back desk, and a couple bookshelves. Nothing had changed, seriously, nothing. I was the editor and chief of the Yearbook staff, but the teacher was of course in charge of all my decisions. "You got to give me a good page this year!" Jason exclaimed excitedly as he banged his fists on the table.
