Chapter five

In social studies we had a seating chart now which I was fine with since I sat next to Lucas and my Mexican friend Pedro. That hour had gone by in a breeze. I asked the boys if they knew who Slender Man was and they shook their heads. I changed the subject quickly after that to something more interesting like weekend plans. I really wanted to talk about beginning exams and how easy they were, but my friends weren’t interested in school like I was.

Art came around at last. It was my favorite subject. I saw Micah enter as I sat down in the middle table where my new assigned seat was chosen at the end of the hour yesterday. Micah sat by none of his posse, or whatever you call it, but he continued to shout across the room to them. Now I could hear their idiotic premature conversations about ‘Slender Man’. Daniel made a joke about giving his little sister to Slender Man. Of course I didn’t get it. They all snorted and giggled.

“Dude, come to my house after school!” Micah told Gregory.

“Oh, I’m going to come to with Brent and Declan!” Conner exclaimed.

“Why?” Micah asked.

“Because! We have a game to launch, and you’re the only one with the tech to do it!” Conner exclaimed offended.

“You have the final draft done and the graphics refurbished? Do you have all the glitches and kinks out?” Micah quizzed.

“Yeah, I got Mark to help me out and Declan helped a lot too. Oh boy I cannot wait to get it launched, and then everyone’s going to play it and, and, and..!” Conner rambled in his immature stupid voice.

“Shut up. Okay you can come over, so I can stab you.” Micah joked obviously annoyed by Conner, but trying to stay nice.

“Can I come?” Daniel asked in his raspy voice while wiping snot off his bottom lip.

“No.” Micah said bluntly.

“Awe…” Daniel sighed, obviously being the black sheep of the posse.  I turned my attention to the board and began drawing the assignment in my art journal. The subject was fear so I drew a baby doll with their glass eyes and they everlasting porcelain grin. The thought even was unsettling as there glass eyes seemed to follow you wherever you went.

“I’m drawing Slendy!” Conner exclaimed to Daniel across their table.

“Shh!” Mrs. Doe exclaimed.

“Sorry…” Conner apologized.

The timer went off and we put our art journals back in the cabinet underneath the sink in the back of the room. “I drew slender with a dead kid on a pine tree!” Daniel bragged.

“Dude, I didn’t even think of that!” Conner exclaimed. Daniel’s eyes gleamed with acceptance through his overly enlarged glasses on his pimply face. “What did you draw?” Conner asked Micah as they walked back from the cabinet.

“Obviously slender.” Micah dumbly replied. Conner nudged him with a knowing smile. I rolled my eyes at how weird those guys were. Mrs. Doe got up from her metal cluttered desk and went in front of her Smart Board.

“We will be going to the library tomorrow to print out references to start our pencil shading project, so make sure to meet in the library.” She told us, then she put up some pictures on her Smart Board. “These are some ideas for what you could do…” She began flipping through some amazingly detailed pencil shaded drawings of cars, cakes, and one of them from a scene in the Disney animated movie Tangled. I heard some seventh graders talk about which ones they liked more than others. “Now of course, you have to be school appropriate.  No, nudity so guys you can’t draw girls with their boobs hanging out, and girls you can’t draw boys in a Speedo on the beach.  No alcohol or drugs or things affiliated with them like Bob Marley or gang symbols.” She explained.

“Can we draw Slenderman?” Conner spoke up, of course.

“Who’s that?” She asked.

“Some myth from YouTube who stalks kids.” Brent countered.

“Yeah.” Conner agreed.

“Uh… only if you don’t draw any gore.” She compromised.

“Sweet!” Conner exclaimed along with the group’s excited whoops. I exchanged a look between myself and Mrs. Doe that said ‘what the heck, they’re weird’.  For the rest of class we got to sit around and talk, but I just pulled out my Artemis Fowl book and got lost in it.

After school I went home and did my usual routine; go to the bathroom, watch TV, and then whatever I want. I went outside for awhile on the trampoline, but it was too hot so I went back inside and got on the laptop. My cursor seemed to move over to YouTube.  I was curious of what this ‘Marble Hornets’ was.

I typed it in the search engine and a video cast popped up. I watched the first two episodes and closed the laptop with a grimace on my face. What the hell did I just watch? These people were being stalked by something Micah is calling the Slenderman apparently. The first clip was about forty seconds long and just showed a clip of a man in a dark suit with a white head outside the window in terrible quality, and the other was just a man driving talking about seeing a man who apparently was the one outside. I knew this was just a YouTube series, but Micah and his friends obsessing over some man in a skin suit and an actual suit was just as weird as the rest of them. They all played card games and never went out and sat around playing Call of Duty all day from what I heard.

Hope was obviously right. I laughed a little and went to go tell my sister about the new wolf pack at the school. The wolf pack was a group of girls all through elementary, who truly believed they were wolves, and they’d hide in the forest at recess and weird crap like that, and they’d pee on things and pretend to be each other’s mates. They were weird.
