❄ Chapter 14 ❄
After the scene in the girls' bathroom, I couldn't bring myself to look at Aether for the rest of the day until the last class where we had music. We were in our duet, so it was basically difficult for us to not look at each other.
"We still don't have a song," Aether stated the obvious and I sighed, but my head was still buried in my notebook full of tips on our sessions.
"I know. We'll figure something out today after school. If Mr. Burningham asks about the song, we'll tell him that we're experimenting and haven't found the song yet."
"You're going to lie to a teacher?" He asked somewhat surprised. I shrugged and flipped through the pages of my notebook, making it seem like I was busy.
"It isn't fully lying. We really haven't found any song that can describe a story. Now, should I try to sing this one?" I asked, pointing to a new song in the music book.
"Yea, try it." As usual, I would completely sing the whole song before he would point out the flaws and how to fix them. Then I would slowly use each of his tips and improve as much as possible.
"Aether, Zelia," Mr. Burningham called out as we were exiting the classroom. "Have you figured out the song for the Winter Concert?"
"Not yet, Mr. Burningham," I responded, but Aether took over the rest.
"We were experimenting with different songs, but haven't found one where we could create a story out of. We'll continue to work on it today."
"Inform me as soon as possible when your decisions have been made so that I could create the program."
"Will do," I replied before Aether dragged me away and to the usual bench Elfanse will meet us at. Once we reached it, we sat down and I shot him a glare. "Why didn't you let me speak? I had it under control."
"You know as well as I do that whenever you lie, you bite your lip. If Mr. Burningham knew about this, then your lie would be detected," he said, smirking as he saw me give into his reasoning.
"Alright, point taken. Oh right, I forgot to thank you for saving me from doing something rash back in the lunchroom," my cheeks slightly heated up as my mind drifted back to the bathroom scene.
"I should be thanking you for stopping me from seriously committing murder," he looked at me with a serious expression. I dismissed it as another one of his poor jokes and laughed lightly.
"You wouldn't do that," I said with great certainty.
"Zelia, you don't-"
"Aether! Zelia!" Elfanse's high pitched voice came closer as he came and hugged both of us at the same time, cutting off whatever Aether was going to say. I saw Aether reach around the back of Elfanse and pulling the bag from him as he let go, making me feel warm inside at the gesture.
"Let's go get ice cream, little bud. Aether is going to join us," I smiled as Elfanse's grin grew.
"Come on then!" He shouted and grabbed both of our hands in his tiny ones, running as fast as he could to an ice cream parlor.
The ice cream parlor was a cute little thing as the bell over the door rang, signalling our presence. The whole shop was bright with lights, the floor looked clean and recently glossed. Surprisingly, there were a bunch of people here.
"Do you guys want to sit down here to eat or take it home to eat?" Aether asked, looking warily at the line. I glanced at Elfanse, silently asking him to voice his opinion.
