❄ Chapter 11 ❄

In the darkness, I vaguely remembered someone shouting my name. Then being lifted up and hearing a whisper "stay with me", just barely audible before I was totally knocked out. But it was the whisper that broke me even more because the plea sounded so vulnerable; like that person was in more pain than I was.

I remembered wanting to comfort that person, but didn't know how to. Again, it's been my fault. It was my actions that led me to this stage. Now I didn't know what to do because Ms. Lee had said to me that if I broke the necklace, he would come after me.

And since that was the case, I needed to do all I can so that others wouldn't get hurt. I needed to step up my protection game.

'Melody! Be careful, the floors are slippery. Don't run so fast.'

'Melody, how many times do I have to tell you? You'll get hurt if you run like that. Our house is not a playground you know?'

I wanted to tell the voices that they got my name wrong. I wanted to shout out 'I'm not Melody!' But my lips were glued shut as I watched a girl around the age of 3 run around the house despite the warnings. I studied her and was taken aback at the resemblance she had with me--she was in fact identical to the 3 year old me. What? Who?...

Suddenly my vision showed me Melody laying on the ground with a pool of red liquid surrounding her body. I heard screams and sirens in the background.

I woke up with a jolt and brushed my hair from my forehead, noticing the sweat that lined it. I pondered over what I've just dreamed about, but only remembered the name Melody.

After moments of trying to remember the glimpse of the person, I gave up and looked around my surroundings, cursing under my breath. Why the hell am I in Aether's frigging room?

I evaluated my out-of-the-usual dream. That was what it was. Just a dream. But it felt so realistic, like the dreams I was normally plagued with each night.

I got up from the bed and walked unsteadily to the door. As soon as I touched the doorknob, a spark of electricity startled me, seeing a thin blue line coming out from my fingers. OK Zelia, you are officially going crazy.

I ignored my imagination and turned the knob so the door would open and stepped outside. Dé-frigging-jà vu.

My body slammed into a "wall" that let out a little shock. This time, I was smart enough to process that it was another person standing in front of the door. Because walls obviously don't talk and of course, there wasn't a wall built outside of Aether's room the last time I went to it.

I craned my neck and noticed Aether looking down at me with wide eyes.

"Did you just attack me?" Was what he said. My brows crinkled in confusion and I opened my mouth.

"What the frig are you talking about? I did no such thing."

"Yes, I felt--nevermind. Let's go, we need to see everyone, now that you finally woke up."

"How long was I sleeping?" I asked, panicking a little.

"Just a few days..." And he trailed off for some reason. I ignored him and thought about the homework and projects I needed to catch up on. Then I need to get notes from people in my class. Then-

"Hey, hey. It's fine. I had Bonnie get the homework you missed out on and the notes are split between me, Cavean, and Bonnie." Aether said, putting a hand on my shoulder in comfort. I looked at the gloved hand on my shoulder and noticed how tightly it was holding me.
