❄ Chapter 19 ❄

I arrived in front of a dark alley and as soon as I took my first step, hands started grabbing me.

"You didn't bring anyone else did ya?" A rough voice demanded. As my eyes adjusted in the dark, I saw two large guys. One of them had asked me the question while the other was looking out to where I had come from.

"Clear." The guy looking out shouted and I rolled my eyes. There was no need to ask me the question.

"What's in that bag?" The other asked, while his partner pushed me up against the wall in a choke hold.

"I-If y-you hold me like this...I can't f-frigging answer you..." When the hold around my throat loosened, I greedily inhaled air and turned to the two guys. "It's something Daniel asked me to bring. And since he obviously didn't trust you guys, he didn't inform you about it." One of them growled, obviously not liking the sound of it and grabbed the straps of my bag roughly. I resisted by pulling the straps back. "It's fragile! And these are hard to replace. Now would we get a move on? If I recall, Daniel isn't particularly patient."

They didn't even bother blindfolding me or bagging me. Amateurs. I paid attention to my surroundings and quickly inputted it in my memory. I slowed down my pace a little and dragged my feet.

"How much longer?" I pulled a whining tone. They both grunted and shot me a glare.

"We're here, just a few more minutes."

"Where? I don't see anything. I'm not going until you show me where the hell this thing is," and I planted my foot on the ground, crossing my arms on my chest. They made sounds of frustration and one of them pointed to a vague outline of an abandoned building straight ahead. I nodded and we walked a few more blocks before I stopped again.

"What the fuck do you want now?" One of them snapped while the other one pulled my arm.

"I want a bathroom."

"Ugh, the building is literally right there. Can't you hold it until we get there?"

"It'll only be a few minutes. I'll be around that corner." And I quickly escaped out of the hold, running to the corner I pointed to. Once in the dark alleyway, I turned my back to the lighted street and whipped out my phone, using my back to cover the light from the screen.

I typed on my phone a few words before stashing it back in my bag and heading out, just in time to bump into one of the guys who was charging in my direction.

"Come on, we're already behind schedule!" And he grabbed my arm tightly, dragging me to where his partner stood waiting. Just as we were about to reach the entrance of the building, my phone rang and the guys stopped, looking at me murderously.

"Give me your bag."

"Like I said, there is something fragile that Daniel needs in it--" My bag was ripped from my body and I watched as they dug out the only thing that was inside it; the phone. They smashed it on the ground before stepping on it and ending the shrill rings.

"You lied to us, you little bit--"

"You are dismissed," a voice boomed from inside the building and the two guys stepped away from me. "Come." The voice said in Mandarin and I narrowed my eyes. Daniel. I walked in and eyed the tables full of bottles of red liquid, and other weaponry lay there. I looked back and forth between a scalpel and where Daniel had his back turned, face looking at one of two large clear spheres. I sidestepped to the scalpel and slipped it in my sleeves just as he turned around.

"My daughter, you have come," he went towards me with his arms opened wide and I turned away from him.

"You are no father to me and I am not your daughter," I said defiantly, turning my head up to meet his eyes. "But I have come to you and I expect you to keep your promise."
