◆◇Aleks' POV◇◆
"Dude, don't fucking go into the hallway you idiot! You're gonna piss people off!" A man's voice called, laughter following afterwards.
I sighed loudly, running my hand down my face. I flicked my eyes towards the phone on the table, tempted to call and complain to the main desk. Of course with my great luck I was roomed next to a loud asshole with loud asshole friends. I heard the door slam shut, followed by a bang and more loud laughter.
"Fuck it." I murmured to myself, leaving my apartment to walk to the one next door. I licked my chap lips, knocking my knuckles against the wood. I heard a quick 'shh' before the door casually swung open.
"Hello?" His eyes quickly scanned my body, retreating back to my face. I unknowingly did the same, catching his attire. He wore a black beanie, dark brown curls slipping out from underneath it. He had on a thin navy blue pullover hoodie, followed by slightly baggy blue jeans. I directed my eyes back to his brown ones after noticing the messy beard that traced his chin and upper lip.
"Hey, do you mind keeping it down a bit? I'm next door in the room at the end." I stated, eyeing his friends who paused whatever shenanigans they were doing to look over at me.
"Oh, yeah, dude, my bad. Sorry."
"Thanks." I mumbled, walking back to my apartment.
"WATCH OUT!" I heard someone yell from inside the strangers room before the door shut. I huffed out a breath, shutting my door. The Keeshond quickly ran up to me as she heard me enter, running around my feet.
"Hey, Mishka. I think they'll be quiet now." I said to my dog, knowing she can't really understand me. "The guy seems nice enough, hopefully he'll settle his friends down."
I pet behind her ears as she wagged her tail. "Wanna go outside, girl?" I asked in the voice I usually would while talking to my dog. She barked out, presumably for the idea. I latched the magenta leash to her collar, heading down the stairs and outside. The cool air wrapped around my body and I silently cursed under my breath for not grabbing a sweater on my way out. I heard the door open behind me and was met with the neighbor I spoke to minutes before.
"Oh, hey. You have a dog too?" He started small talk.
"Ah, yeah. That's a corgi, right?" I responded, casually rubbing up and down my arm to create a bit of warmth.
"Yeah, her name is Ein." He smiled, petting her fluffy ears.
"Keeshond." I said, pointing to my dog. "Her name is Mishka."
"Maybe we can have puppy play dates or something." The man joked, tugging down his beanie to cover his ears more properly. "Ein gets pretty hyper sometimes and I don't always feel like playing with her."
"Haha, yeah, I know that feeling." I huffed.
"Oh, uh, I'm James." He smiled, holding his free hand out to me.
"Aleks." I smiled back, taking his hand firmly in mine for a brief handshake.
Mishka let out a bark, circling around Ein. The pups sniffed each other for a moment, seemingly happy with each other. Ein ran around James' legs, tangling him in the leash as he stumbled forward. I held my hands out, barely catching him before he fell.
"Shit, you okay?" I asked.
His cheeks were tinted a slight shade of red, whether it was from the cold or embarrassment, or both, I wasn't sure. "Yeah, sorry." He chuckled, licking his lips and staring down at his feet.
"James!!" Someone yelled from above us. I furrowed my brows, staring upwards. One of the people I noticed earlier in his apartment was staring down, flailing his arms. His long hair swayed in the wind.
