My first reaction was holy crap. My cover was blown. Or…was it? I mean, it’s not like I’m half human half wolf visibly. It’s just mentally.
I thought I actually had a chance at just running off…until I actually processed who it was. Who else would it be. Wide eyed, terrified of this massive creature staring at him. I’ve never been in this position before where I had to protect myself from a human. Sure from different wolves and other creatures, but never from a human. I didn’t know what to do.
I continued to stare, frozen in time. It seemed like Matt did too. His mouth was open in shock and his legs started to tremble. Or, at least I think they did, maybe it was just me. I started to open my mouth to say something, but when I did, I immediately regretted it. Like I thought, he misinterpreted my movement for a sign of aggression. Matt went into protection mode. His arms flew out in front of him and took a few steps back. “Nice dog.” He breathed. Taking a few more steps.
Stupid me, I took a few steps toward him, trying to say something, but finally remembering that I was still a wolf. I really wish I could do something. Anything to tell him it was me. But at the same time, I didn’t. Who knows what would happen if I revealed myself to a human? All I knew is that it was forbidden. Gosh, I’m just like a walking forbidden zone. Everything I do now is forbidden. I just haven’t officially broken any rules yet. I’m kind of riding the border.
My head was going through every possible solution to this situation I was in. Nothing came to mind. Time was running out, we couldn’t just stand here staring at each other.
Suddenly, I knew that breaking the rules was the thing I had to do. I had to reveal myself to Matt. It might just be the solution to all of my problems. Or it might be the exact opposite. I had faith in Matt. I honestly didn’t think he would get freaked out. Well, I guess we’ll see.
My huge paws lumbered a little ways farther into the woods, leaving Matt behind in the dust, still staring after me. Thankfully he didn’t follow me. Only someone completely psychotic would follow a humongous wolf into the forest. Once I knew he couldn’t see me anymore, I transformed back into a human. Thankfully, I had a few extra pairs of clothes out here…just incase of emergencies like this. Well, not exactly as extreme as this. Scrambling through the bushes I put on some random clothes.
That’s why I went so far into the woods where he couldn’t see me. I didn’t want him seeing me…well, let’s just say not very covered up. That would be really awkward.
I took a huge breath. Who knows what consequences this choice will make, but whatever it was, I guess I’ll take it. I began making my way back to where I came from.
When I approached the area where I knew Matt was, I could smell him and hear him breathing rather hard, I hid behind a tree. Before I went out there, I wanted to know if he’d be prepared or not. I peeked around the tree to look at Matt. He was still in the same position I left him. Mid step and wide eyed staring in the direction or the monster.
My heart began to drum very fast. My face flooding with heat. I suddenly didn’t want to do this. What I was mostly afraid of was if this would ruin our relationship. I guess I’ll just have to make a flying leap. Hopefully Matt will catch me.
I slid my foot out into the field and followed it’s lead. At first, Matt didn’t notice me, then his eyes flickered in my direction, then widened even bigger, I didn’t even know that was possible.
The only thing I could do was shrug. “Hey.” I half smiled. Right in that second Matt ran over to me and threw his arms around me. Not in a hugging way, but in a protective way. “Mackenna, what are you doing?! These woods are dangerous! I just saw-” “A huge wolf? A monster?” Matt seemed a bit taken aback by this. Like he couldn’t believe that I just guessed spot on. “Wait, have you ran into it? Are you okay? What’s going on Kenna?” He demanded.
I removed his hands from around me. I sighed. “Matt, we need to talk.”

I appreciate you guys who are sticking with this book! Thank you so much! If you could check out my "The Surfer's Heart" book too that'd be awesome! I need you guy's opinions, continue with this book, or not? I'm kind of at a dead end with ideas, and I dont want to make the story repetitive. That's kinda why I started "The Surfer's Heart".
