"I could die for you. But I couldn't, and wouldn't, live for you."
CHAPTER FIVE
Arva helped Charlotte tie the wires around the honed sticks. "So, Charlotte, have you seen the butterflies here or the ladybugs?" Arva tried to bring up a light conversation for the girl. She didn't want to talk about about building, she didn't want to talk about hunting or killing, basically anything dark. Arva wanted to talk about beautiful things, like life and mutated bugs. She glanced up at Charlotte to see her shrug.
"I mean, I haven't seen the ladybugs yet." She mumbled, passing Arva the wire.
"Well, the ladybugs are really cool looking. Average ladybugs are red and black, probably the size of a grain of rice. These ladybugs are the size of your palm and in the daytime they are basic colors, but at night they change to pink and white, not to mention they glow. It's really beautiful. It was frightening at first because I didn't know what it was, but I figured it out sooner or later." Arva rambled a bit, causing the young girl to smile. Arva hadn't seen the girl smile, ever since they talked.
Suddenly, a boy dropped the tree and lands on his knee, out of breath. Arva handed the wire to Charlotte before kneeling down beside him. "Hey, are you alright?"
"Yea, I just need water." His voice was raspy. Arva asked for Charlotte to go get a cup of water for him and she nodded her head, doing as she was told.
"Hey!" Murphy shouted, causing both Arva and the boy to looked up at him. She grumbled as she stands up, "Do you think the Grounders are just gonna sit around and finish the walls? Maybe we should let the wild girl do the lifting for you, huh? " Murphy strolled over, questioning the boy. Arva glared at Murphy, unamused with his attitude.
"I just need some water, then I'll be fine." He defended himself, trying to breathe.
"Hey, Murphy, if you think this wall is going to be finished if your people pass out from dehydration, you're wrong." Arva sassed Murphy, causing him to laugh.
"What makes me think that you know all the answers around here, Doll Face?" Murphy raised an eyebrow and in the corner of her eye, Arva noticed Bellamy walking towards them.
"Because I've been living here for two years now, without any electricity, guns, proper clothing and any people. Not to mention, I'm not dead yet from the Grounders, and they won't kill me. I'm still alive." Arva walked closer to Murphy.
"Not for long." Murphy spat at her and her eyes widen.
"Hey! What did you just say to her?" Bellamy shouts at Murphy.
"Nothing."
"Respect her. She can help this camp out a lot." Bellamy exclaimed, directing it at everyone. Charlotte came back with the cup of water, handing it to the boy. He thanked her silently.
"Hey, can you get this?" Bellamy jokingly questioned, Arva. She chuckled, bending down, grabbing it.
"I'm just kidding." Bellamy rolled his eyes, taking it from her and placing it on his shoulder before walking away. She turned around to see Murphy, unzipping his pants, peeing on the guy.
"Hey! What the hell is wrong with you Murphy? Not to mention there is a little girl here!" Arva yelled angrily at the boy, for not having any manners whatsoever. The boy stood up, turning around frustrated. He started to shove him, punching his chest. Right away, Arva ran over to Charlotte, keeping her behind her back. People grabbed the boy back, from keeping away from murdering Murphy.
"You wanted a water break." Murphy shrugged, before walking back.
"Get back to work! And you, come here." He shouted at everyone, grabbing Arva's wrist.
