Ten Commandments of A Guyanese
(There's a Desi version of this but not owned by me. Don't ask me who made the Desi version because I forgot).
1. Thou shall be on time or dem a get good, good lash
2. Thou shan't receive any grade lower than an A or me go buss you backside
3. Thou shall know how to cook, clean, do all thing or dem husband go put them out.
4. Thou shall buy things on sale and if you na do am me go send yuh a flea market.
5. Thou shall study them books and na think about baifriend and gyalfriend and become one cricketa (cricketer), dacta (doctor), lier (lawyer), or one type of engineer.
6. (This one depends on how your parents are.) Thou shan't have a love marriage or dem a get put out. (My parents told me that it doesn't matter as long as they see me happy.)
7. Thou shall listen to annoying, loud, drunk, wateva family members.
8. Thou shall learn how to talk like one Guyanese (I gradually caught on).
9. Thou shall learn how to make roti and make it well!
10. Thou shall learn how to be coolie and be proud of it too!
