Chapter 11
After a multitude of outfit changes, Brielle finally chose a strapless floral dress. Walking over to the mirror, she spun around making sure the dress was long enough. The dress being mid- thigh, it was shorter than what she would typically wear. Pairing the dress with a pair of sandals with a small wedge was more appropriate rather than her four inch heels. This was not a real date, it was a night out on the town. The difference is that this night out was not with her typical girl friends, but out with a really good looking guy.
Brielle looked for jewelry to wear and came across the charm bracelet and the most recent box she had received. She had set the box aside and forgot to open it. After a few minutes of internal debate, Brielle decided to open the box. Slowly lifting the lid to reveal a new charm, Brielle gasped and dropped the box. The charm was a statuette of a woman wearing a green dress.
After the initial shock subsided, Brielle realized that it all made sense now. Jackson had to be the one leaving the gifts, knowing that it was so close to the dress she wore and that she received the charm the night they went to dinner. That brought some relief to her. She knew Jackson was harmless, and maybe this was his way of trying to flatter her.
Brielle wanted to speak to Jackson about the gifts he has been sending, but she knew how he would react if she brought it up. She figured that he probably felt obligated to try and make amends and make up for what happened between the two. The bracelet was a gift after all and she would feel awkward to wear it around Jackson, so she chose to wear on her night out with Marc.
As Brielle was applying the finishing touches of accessories and eye makeup, she decided to call Jocelyn before her date started. While speaking on the phone, the doorbell rang. "I wonder who that could be" Brielle said aloud with furrowed eyebrows. Making her way to the door, she opened it to see that the hallway was empty. Jocelyn could practically hear a pin drop from the other side of the phone and chose to speak up. "Hey girl, you still there?" Brielle sighed as she averted her attention back to her phone. "Sorry Jocelyn, must have been some kids playing pranks by ringing doorbells and then running off. Anyways, I wanted to call you and let you know that I won't be home till late. I am hanging out with Marc tonight." Brielle had to pull the phone away from her ear when Jocelyn screamed ecstatically. "About time you get together with that hunk. Make sure you have a great time, and I want details tomorrow." The girls giggled and said their goodbyes as they ended the call.
Almost an hour later, Brielle and Marc met up at the movie theater. After purchasing drinks and snacks, they made their way to their seats. It was easy to choose what movie to watch, as they had similar tastes in genres. They decided on a horror film, since it was more of friend night than date night. As other people were filing in, Brielle decided to excuse herself to visit the ladies room before movie started.
The lines for the bathroom were non existent as the movies have all started. As Brielle had finished and was walking out, she ran into Tonya. "Well, if it isn't lil' Ms. Andrews! What do I owe the pleasure? Let me guess, you and Jackson, here together? I have heard you two are being awfully cozy lately." Tonya's voice was seething of sarcasm and distaste. "Tonya, not that it is any of your business, but there is nothing going on between Jackson and I. I happen to be here with a friend, and I must get back before he worries what happened to me." Tonya arched her painted on eyebrow as Brielle finished speaking. Tonya was the type of girl that consistently wore too much makeup and too little clothing. It was as if she is imitating a real life Barbie but giving Barbie a bad reputation by trying to hard. It was so hard to believe that she was related to Tanner. She is a few years younger so I never knew her that well growing up.
"Well, well, so you have a new boyfriend! Is he as good in bed as Jackson? No reason to answer that, I am sure I can find that out on my own." Brielle wanted to hit Tonya for her comments, but she had to remain calm. She was not dating Marc, yet she felt that she couldn't handle another Tonya moment with a guy she had any connection to. "Tonya, we are just friends hanging out. What or who Jackson does is no longer my concern. We are trying to be civil and try the friendship route for the sake of our jobs." Tonya rolled her eyes and decided that she would end the conversation by huffing and bumping shoulders with Brielle as they walked past each others.
Brielle quickly pushed her anger with Tonya aside as she made her way back to her seat. She was not about to let Tonya ruin her night. "Hey, is everything ok? I thought I might have to come rescue you from the depths of the toilet." Brielle started laughing at Marc's sudden comedic statement, and thought to respond with her own comedic response. "It would have been more pleasant to fall in the toilet, then to deal with the snake I ran into. Looks like we should watch the movie before we get kicked out." The seating area filled with a light sound of laughter as they directed their attention to the large screen.
Once the movie ended, Brielle was looking forward to having a few drinks and dancing. The new club which was conveniently called Hot Spot was just that. The place was one of the fastest growing night clubs in Atlanta.
