You meet because Crowley needed a hunter to get rid of some demons causing to much trouble and the Winchesters were busy dealing with Deans Mark of Cain . You were a famous hunter so he recruited you to do his dirty work in exchange of information about a demon who killed your family. You were reluctant to associate with the king of hell himself but you really needed to find this demon so you agreed. For every group of demons you kill you get another piece of information about the demon who killed your family. You were determined to avenge your family's death and were ashamed that you would stoop to making alliances with demons in order to do so but that didn't change your mind.
