Until it's day again...

I look, my mouth agape at the circular cake in front of me and burst out laughing.
"Wwhhat??!!!" Bea glares, "Happy birthday! Isn't it today!"
"No no, sorry just... We never celebrated our 'birthdays' if you would call it that." My heart is pounding in amusement and my grin softens, "We never learned our real birthdays so instead we went by the day Master splinter found us in the sewers."
She hands me the cake and plops onto the grassy batch behind the ally shop, "So I should sing to you right? I don't have any candles, but that isn't important. Ok... Happy birthday to you. Happy birthday to you..."
I sit and listen to her small winded singing voice, breathing out a sigh of pleasure.
I'm such a dork.
We sit and talk for hours and watch the sunrise for the first time in over a year. Bea looks dazzled by the sizzling color exploding from the sky. Guilt stabs at me again like a reopening wound, this is the first time she seen the sun in 6 years... I look at her mesmerized face and see the scar running down her ghost white cheeks. Her freckles are slowly fading leaving her face bare and lightly distorted, like a corpse. Then, she faces me, my mind flys back into me, my guilt hiding behind the dark shadows of the past. We stand and I grasp her shoulder lightly.
"Let's go before we're seen." Her white skin glows, I can't bring my self to look away. I nod, we walk further into the shadows of the morning lighted ally way.
••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••For the first time in months I wake up with out wanting to scream. As I let my eyes adjust to the evening darkness, I look for a curled up orange and black ball. Instead I see a grown woman sitting on the ledge of a roof watching the moon and clouds gently flout through the sky. My cheeks burn lightly and I hop up.
Not in the mood to travel, I do a small stretching routine and go for a quick jog off the roof tops. My mind wonders to my brothers again, my shoulder twitches. What if they lived? What if they were stuck in space and time like Don said. But what if they had entered into another dimension? What if they had entered into a new reality? Couldn't I find them like how I used to see Usagi? Meet at the champions battle arena?! What if they're waiting for me there?! What if they were crushed under the pressure? What if they were warped incorrectly?...
I fly through the unknown territory with my brain turned off. I can't think of it again. My nightmares haunt me enough already, even when I win the war in my dreams I still lose to the terror of reliving it the next night.
Worst part is, Beatrice seems fine! Not at all phased by what happened to her there. She never talks about the scar on her face, or what she dreams about at night. All she says is, "I don't need that much sleep any way so it's not like it's a big deal."
She never slows us down so I don't ask. I guess I'm to scared by what she'll say, like her actually telling me.
My foot slips off the cemented floor and I plummet to an ally way with a bang.
Ouch.
I with draw the scream that wants to to explode out of my mouth. I missed the roof and fell into a dumpster that, lucky for me, was open. The shock of hitting the dumpster forced the top to fall hard. On to my shoulder.
It's dislocated, shoot, I need to get up and get Bea to push it back into position before it starts to numb.
I push my self up with my legs, carful of my arm.
Looking around the small ally way, I search for a easy way for me to get up to the roof with my legs.
Idiot... When did you get so distracted? Missing a roof?! When have you EVER done that?!
I jump up and kick off a wall, aiming for a pulled up ladder on a outdoor stairway. I miss.
Try it again!
I run at it again, jumping high and swinging my self upside down to catch as soon as possible, hitting my knee hard against the metal as a result. I ring my left leg over the bar before I fall, my back slams into the metal support beams.
Taking a deep breath I spring up and over the the bar to the ladder leading to the roof. It takes me a while to figure my way up the ladder, but I eventually get it and stand on the edge on the roof looking for any sign of my FoxGirl.
A gasp escapes from my lips, shock runs down my arm.
I desperately examine my surroundings, but it's to hazy from the pain and the sun has almost passed the horizon. My legs collapse, I hit the pavement hard.
Crap... I've got no choice...
I shift myself slowly over to the ledge of the building and put all my might into a swift movement, slamming my shoulder into one of the concrete walls. My shoulder shifts, I scream.
I do it again, a scream, it pops into place.
I fall onto my shell and roll onto my plastron breathing heavy from the dazzling pain. My shoulder is searing, making my body feel like it's on fire.
The amount of time I lye there is drown out by my pain.
"Leo!?"
"Leo?!!"
"LEO!"
I open my eyes and see black streams of hair, I feel each strand touching my face, "Hey..."
"What on earth happened?! You were completely dazed!" Bea sounds flustered.
She helps me up and I tell her what happened before apologizing for running off.
"Don't be absurd! We need time alone... We just... Need to think clearer when there's no one there to help us if something like this happens..." She pats my shoulder, " We're partners right, we can... Trust, each other. Now! Let's check that shoulder! What is the problem?"
I smile in appreciation, "After slamming it into the concrete I pushed it into its main position, but I think it's slightly to far to the right..."
She lifts her hand and cringes, "ahh, yup I can see it."
"Pull it to the left and push it down. Here, hold onto this shoulder and use this hand to pop it into place. Don't hold back."
She closes her eyes and does as she's told. With one sharp POP I can feel the difference, along with the blood pouring out of my lip where I bit it.
"Are you ok?!" Beatrice's voice oozes out of the silence.
I stretch my shoulder and flex my single arm, "I'll be fine."
Her hand covers her face quickly then looks at me smiling, "Only a few more weeks, let's go."
•••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
I stare at the small hilled in village in awe. Though the sky is far from being kissed by the sun, I can still see the flowers violently scattered across every patch of grass in sight. All different colors and shapes, I look over at Beatrice in wonder... She's crying, her hand to her mouth straight out sobs.
"What's wrong?!" I ask concerned, her face is getting blotchy and pink.
"It's down there... Home..." She points.
"But you said Clear water was where you were from?"
"I thought it was... But it... It... It's like my mind just got completely fogged and altered. Oh my gosh! Derrick!!" She slams her fist into her skull and falls to her knees.
"What? Bea, who is darrick?!" I kneel down to her.
Her face is sour and she looks at me panicked, "My brother!"
I stand, "you said you didn't have family!"
"I didn't... But I do, and I don't... Ugh I can't believe this...!" She pulls her hands to her face again and her throat gives a painful noise.
Everything is going to fast! It feels like I'm in fast forward! "Well, let's go down there and look... I'll wear a jacket and stuff to coverup."
She nods, stands, and grasps my hand tightly. Down we start to the dew covered village, engulfed in darkness.
