The poster dominated a whole wall of the library. As part of a big fundraiser/community event, there was an all week festival going that included a huge chart that pitted various literary icons against each other.

Plenty of fans were getting into it, but the librarian had to admit she was surprised when a dark haired young man started doing a victory lap when Thranduil lost to Merlin in the final round.

A/N: In other news, I hate Thranduil.
Here's why: He didn't help the dwarves.
Fans: But he'd suffered from dragon fire before! He couldn't risk his people!
Me: Okay. He doesn't have to fight the dragon. How about just, you know, some food? A place for the dwarves to stay? Something? Anything? Nope? Okay. I don't like Thranduil.
But I didn't hate him until there was all this to do about him amongst some of the fans in reaction to the Hobbit movies. He even won favorite character in Middle Earth Madness in 2014. He probably would have this year, except they caught someone cheating to give him more votes.
People, he's got some good qualities. But compared to the nobility, sacrifice, tragic flaws, innocence, humor, strength, and unexpected reserves of some of the other characters . . .
