(AU where Season 5 ends in a reasonable manner.)
After magic is legalized in Camelot, Arthur is surprised and almost hurt when he notices Merlin isn't clumsy anymore. When he asks if it was part of the act, Merlin is quick to reassure him. It wasn't an act; it was a symptom. He has so much magic, his body can't really hold it. The magic is constantly wanting to come out and be expressed. Back when he still had to hide, it would build up, and the effort of containing it left him distracted and off balance. Now he's free to let it loose in a host of harmless ways: sending bubbles down into the courtyard, entertaining the castle children with a dragon he conjured of sparks, levitating chickens out of the kitchen while Gwaine distracts the cook . . . Okay, mostly harmless.
He remains clumsy on the hunts, confirming Arthur's long held suspicion that he does it on purpose to scare the game off. He complains, but truthfully, he doesn't mind.
