| 16. Leave, Return |
It was quiet between us for once.
We moved from the hallway and decided to ditch the rest of the class; who gave a fuck anymore? We were tired, but I still felt an entire spectrum of emotions inside me; I couldn't tell if I was tired of the emotions or if the emotions made me tired.
Vikk lagged behind us, his sneakers crunching on the tiny rocks that was on the pavement. Lachlan's arm was around my waist and he kept close to me, closer than usual, and his chin kept grazing the side of my head.
My throat felt scratchy, as if it was its own way of telling me to shut up and to never speak again. If I was being honest, though, my entire state of mind was motivation enough to stay silent; the dry and scratchy throat was just one more thing to add on the list of shitty things.
"Vikk, wanna head over to my house tonight?" Lachlan offered, turning his head to face Vikk. He must have nodded as Lachlan made a noise of slight happiness and turned to face forward again.
"You okay, babe?"
I shook my head no.
"That's fine then. Tonight's going to be one of those nights, eh?" He chuckled, bringing me closer.
"You guys mind if I bring Vi over?" Vikk asked, sounding as if he was hesitant to bring her up at all.
"I thought you didn't like her."
"No, she's a fine friend, but I don't like her any more than that now that I had time to think about it." Vikk explained and I felt Lachlan's head bob up and down slightly in a nod.
"Sure as long as she doesn't bring hell for us. Who knows what would happen, eh, X?" He joked. "Then again, you had that rumor at one point. Maybe she'll believe it, hah."
"Shut...up." I croaked, coughing immediately after I finished my sentence. It was amazing how a messy mind set could easily ruin you.
"Fuck, forgot about this..." Lachlan muttered, running his hand through my hair once. "I'll get some different brands later when we get to my house."
I nodded.
"Hurry up, Vikk! We didn't leave that hellhole for nothing; we left it to go to my house and chill!"
