Chapter 16

3 months ago-

The girls were having a sleepover with Violet. Lilly had fallen asleep early. Violet looked out of the window and into the back garden. 

"It looks so pretty out there!" She said, gazing up at the trillions of shining stars and the slither of a new moon in the sky.

"Let's go out there." Lola said, jumping up.

The 2 girls tiptoed into the garden and quietly shut the door behind them.

"I wanna talk to you about something." Violet whispered into the darkness.

"I think I'm fat."

"You're not fat, I am." Lola said, shocked that she could think that.

Silence.

"We should make vows." Violet said, out of the blue.

"I vow to be popular, and really skinny, by the time we get to 9th grade."

Lola took a blade out of her pocket. She always had it on her, but hardly ever used it.

She made a small cut on the palm of her hand and watched the blood drip out.

"I vow to be so skinny that I can count my ribs."

Violet snatched the blade and cut her palm also.

"Well, I vow to be skinnier than you."

"We'll both be as skinny as each other."

They shook hands and mixed blood. 

From that moment on, they were closer than sisters...

Closer than twins.

Lola stared down at the dinner in front of her.

I can't eat that.

No one was looking so she stirred her fork around.

It still doesn't look any different.

She grabbed a handful and put it into her pockets.

There, good.

"Can I be excused? I have a lot of homework to catch up on."

"Sure." They replied, not giving it a second thought.

She went into the bathroom and shoved the food into the trash can.

She thought of the pizza she ate a few hours ago.

She wondered if she was too late, if it had reached her system.

She shoved 2 fingers down her throat, leaning over the toilet.

This was the last time she would ever purge.

She went into her bedroom, where Lilly was reading her journal...
