I wake up to the sound of wood creaking. My eyes snap open and I look for the little girl. She was about three steps away from the bed. "Sorry." She said. I sat up and rubbed my eyes. The sun was up so I guess she had just woken up. "I didn't mean to wake you." She stated. I looked at her. She was still in the clothes from last night. They were dirty and I didn't have anything else for her to wear. "We're going shopping after we eat." I state. Her face brightens and she rushes over to me.
She grabs my wrist and tugs until I get up. "Do you know how to wear your human guise?" I ask. "Yes! Hurry!" She says enthusiastically. It's adorable and I smile. I let her pull me by the wrist as we make our way to the kitchen, but she stops when we step into the hall. I smile and take the lead.
She excitedly sits in a seat and fidgets while I prepare food. I take my time and she's eagerly awaiting her food by the time I place it in front of her. I made us pancakes, eggs, and bacon. She grins and starts on her pancakes. "Slow down or you'll choke." I say. She shrugs, but slows down.
I'm interrupted from my breakfast by a knock on the door. "Stay here." I order. She nods and I go to answer the door. Janson steps in. "You're supposed to ask before you come in." I say. He gives me an irritated look. "I'm playing your rent." He counters. I snort and walk back to the kitchen. I pull out some leftover omelet and put it in the microwave.
The girl looks at him curiously for a minute before recongnition crosses her face. "So what's her name?" Janson asks. I open my mouth to answer, but she talks first. "Amber." She answers. He looks at her with confusion abd just shrugs.
The microwave goes off and I set the plate down in front of ab empty chair. Janson sits down and starts eating. I do the same. Amber looks from me to Janson and back. "Are you two a couple?" She asks.
"No." Janson and I say at the same time. I blush. Then it occurs to me that she said 'couple' and not choosens. "Where your parents choosen?" I ask her. I had heard of thoose rare elves who had offspring before they met their choosens. It never ended nicely. She shrugs. "I don't know." She says.
I she the despair in her eyes and quickly change the topic. "Amber's a pretty name!" I chirp. She smiles. "Q hanta!" She replies. I immediately reconize it as the old elfin tongue. It meant thankfulness, but they also used it to say thank you. Elves used the old tounge until english was introduced.
I was stunned that she actually knew some of the old language. Janson seemed confused. "How much of the old tongue do you know?" I asked her. She blushed. "Only a few words and phrases that my mother used around the house." She replied. Janson still seemed confused. "Old tongue? I thought all elves spoke english?" He asked. I laughed. "How old are you?" I responded with my own question. "One thousand, three hundred, fifty-six." He responded with pride. "The old language was replaced with english about two thousand years ago." I explained.
He blushed and resumed eating his omelet. "Amber and I are going shopping today." I chirp. Janson looks up at me and smiles. My heart does a little flip. "Earth to the love birds!" Amber exclaims while waving her hands in the air. "Is he gonna be taking care of me too?" She askes with a finher pointed at Janson. "Yes, Janson will take care of you when I am busy." I reply and Janson drops his fork. He whips his head around and stares at me.
"I have stuff to do here on Midgard and I can't do said stuff with a twelve year old girl distracting me." I state. "Thirteen." Amber corrects me. I look at her and shrug. "I was close." I argue. I stand and pick up the dishes. I set them in the sink and turn to Janson. "You can do the dishes while we're gone." I say as I grab Amber's hand. "We're like a family!" Amber says and I cringe.
"What's your name?" She asks me before we reach the door. "Kira." I reply. I stop and turn to her. "Change into your human guise." I order. She does and I take a look at her. Her hair is still really long and black, but her eyes are now green. We looked nothing alike. We looked like complete opposites in both elfin and human form. I sighed and opened the door.
I motioned for her to go first and she skipped out of the house. I quickly caught up to her and tickled her tummy. She giggled and started running. I chased her and quickly caught up. I swept her off of her feet and into my arms and she exploded into more giggles. Each giggle brought me joy! I had never felt this way. Not even for my siblings when they were younger.
I loved the feeling! I put her back down on the grass and we walked to the city.

"Hurry up in there!" I shouted at the changing room door. My command was answered by the opening of the door and Amber walked out in a blue dress made of silk. It ended at her knees. "What do you think?" She asked. "I think it would make a great night gown." I replied. She grinned and went back in the changing room to try on the next outfit.
She came back out a while later in a red dress that had lace around the waist. It flared at the bottom and also ended at her knees. "I'm going to rule the school when I go back in these new outfits!" She said. I laughed. She wouldn't be going to a mortal school anymore, but she was right in a sense. "You'll definitely rule the school when you show up in fancy clothes from Midgard!" I respond.
She jumps up and down. "Are we going to go to your realm?!?!" She asks. I nod and she claps her hands. She runs back inot the changing room to try on the next thing.

While we walk home Amber hums and I carry the bags full of clothes. When we got back I set the bags down on the ground. "That took a long time. Why-" Janson complained, but stopped when he saw all eight bags stuffed full of new clothes. "Oh." He said. I laughed. "She's going to be queen of whatever school she goes to in Alfhiem!" I exclaimed.
He shrugged. "She's a dark elf. Who's going to bully her?" He said. I laughed. "You obviously don't remember being a child." I remark. He snorts. "I was captain of the football team!" He said. I shrug my shoulders.
"Does the queen even have this many clothes from Midgard?" Janson asked. "I don't know." I reply and pick up the bags. Janson rushes over to take some and our hands meet. I blush and let him take the bag he was reaching for. We then make our way to the bedroom where Amber was. "I'm bored. Do you have any books?" She asked.
"You're getting her the books." I say to Janson. He laughs. Then he abrutply stops. "You're serious?" He asked in disbelief. I laugh. "Afraid so." I respond. His jaw drops and he gawks at me. "It took you guys an hour to just get clothes!" He argues. "She had to try them on first." I counter. He sighs and turns around to Amber. "You want to play chess tonight?" He asks her. She gets this evil look. "I get to choose whattfor dinner if I win the first game!" She said. "Deal!" Janson agreed. I laughed.
Janson turned to me. "What's so funny?" He asked. "You're gonna lose to a thirteen year-old!" I said. He creased his brows. "I will not!" He exclaimed. "We'll see." I said with another chuckle. I started walking towards the door. "You two better behave!" I said over my shoulder before I shut the door.
