"I'm heading to the café, want a drink?" asked Phoebe.
"Sure, grab me a smoothie," I replied.
"Do you want anything, Em?" asked Phoebe once again.
"Oh me? Sure, grab me ice cream, I'm definitely craving some," answered Emma.
"I'll be back quickly'" Phebs jogged up the beach.
"When are your parents coming?" Em took out her earphones and looked at me.
"They're coming tomorrow with Oliver to spend the day with me. I can't wait to see Ollie," I grinned.
"It's a pity that I'm flying to Florida tomorrow morning,"
"Yeah, it is. It will be just two weeks right?"
"Yes, sister, but we will talk every day, right?"
"Of course we will!"
"Hey hey, girls! Here's your smoothie, Liv, and here's your ice cream, Emma, straight out from Liv's ice cream shop," Phebs returned and gave us our snacks.
"I am so glad that I took this weekend off. In the summer, the shop gets so busy that I can barely breathe."
I was born and raised in Diego-by-the-sea, a quaint little seaside town, a tiny little dot on the Bay Area. It was this town that made me who I am, it's where I have my fondest memories, as well as my dark times. Sure, there were times where all I wanted to do was flee the town, but I always stayed, and it was getting through tough times that made me the person I am today.
I started working at the ice cream shop in town during my senior year, when I turned eighteen and my parents kicked me out of their home, giving me an apartment here (they claim they were kicking me out 'lovingly', as I needed to learn how to be independent). I worked hard, since I had to pay my bills, whilst maintaining my 4.0 GPA, which allowed me to have a scholarship to study in UC Berkeley, where I'm majoring in Legal Studies, going for my sophomore year this fall.
My parents and my brother, Oliver, who is ten, moved to San Jose over a year ago, since my father is now teaching at Stanford and my mother had her enterprise there. They rarely made the trip up here anymore, so I was the one that had to make the trip more often than not so that I could spend time with my brother, whom I loved more than anything in this whole fucking world.
Right now I was just hanging out with Phoebe and Emma, my best friends since ever, we formed the tightest bond on the first day of elementary school and we had never broken up our friendship.
"There's going to be a bonfire party tonight, are you staying for it?" I asked.
"Sorry girl, my parents said that I couldn't go out tonight. We are leaving at 4 am," said Em.
"Oh, that's bad, Em. What about you, Phebs?"
"Sure, I'm going. I haven't told you yet, but I think that we are going to Los Angeles for the weekend. Ash is coming home for the summer!" Phebs shrieked. Ashton, Ash for short, was Phoebe's older brother.
I returned my attention to my book, Phebs drifted off to sleep and Em focused on listening to music.

"What do you think of this dress?" Phoebe came out of my bathroom wearing a strapless light blue dress.
"It looks absolutely gorgeous, it goes really well with your eyes!" Phoebe had baby blue eyes. "What are you wearing?"
