"Katherine..." Madison murmured confused while looking up at the dark-haired girl. She stood up and put a hand on harmed, bloody shoulder trying her best to stop the bleeding. She was nervous about what Katherine was going to say, so nervous that small water droplets were falling from her face. Her blonde hair was messy and fear was etched onto her face. Madison, in a way, looked as if she saw death. She was truly petrified.
"What happened to you?" Katherine was shocked. She couldn't believe the sight she saw. Even if it was in front of her eyes. She blinked a couple times thinking that this game her mind was playing would stop, but it didn't stop when she reopened them. Katherine immediately felt the urge to help Madison. She just had to do something. She wasn't the kind of person who would send away someone in pain. Even though she hadn't wanted to hang out with Madison anymore or even communicate with her in any way, she still wanted to help.
"Here," Katherine placed her hand onto Madison's back. "I'll come with you." They started their walk back to Madison's place. Madison didn't say a single word, neither had Katherine. The blonde girl felt weird and puzzled. She knew Katherine didn't want a single thing to do with her at the school, but here she was, helping her. Maybe, she actually missed me, Madison thought. Madison let out a soft sigh and had a small smile plastered onto her face. Her head, however; was facing the ground so Katherine couldn't see the small grin on her face.
As they walked through the gorgeous and spacious garden they noticed that the front door was open. The two girls entered the house and closed the door. They both walked into the living room. Madison sat on the leather, brown couch and Katherine went to the bathroom to drench the towel with water for Madison's wound. When she came back, she placed the towel over Madison's shoulder. Madison closed her eyes from the sudden contact but didn't remove the towel.
"What happened to you?!" Katherine asked as she sat on the table across from Madison. The injured girl just sat there with the towel drowned with blood and water on her shoulder. It stung, but she didn't move it. She liked the feeling, the cold water mixing with warm blood. Madison answered Katherine as the towel became a darker shade of red.
"Someone broke into my house and attacked me." Madison felt anxious and nervous when she remembered the dreadful scene.
"Did you see it's face?" Katherine asked curiously.
"No, I didn't. There was a mask over his face."
"His? How do you know it was a man?"
"I saw his figure, his shoulders were widely apart."
"You're probably confused. This means a nothing. You know what? Maybe we should just call the police." Katherine suggested, standing up.
"No! Please..." Madison shouted. She didn't want to hear those irritating sirens again. She had heard enough when Anna jumped.Flash back 3
The next event that occurred after Katherine had left were the police cars that rolled in by the bridge. She knew someone called the police on Anna's behalf the second some of the police walked over to the water and some went and stood at the top looking over the bridge. Madison thought about everyone who went with her back to school and realized that Nicolas hadn't come back. He had stayed to search for Anna and maybe, she thought, he found something. Madison felt a huge rush of curiosity. She didn't know what to do. She couldn't go home and leave all this behind. After all, Anna did jump because of her. But at the same time she could have refused, right? Madison walked back to the bridge.
She had been walking when she saw Nicolas walking away from the bridge. He looked upset, furious and confused at the same time. Madison stopped immediately. She wanted to keep moving, but suddenly her legs felt too weak to talk, so they stayed nailed to the ground. When Nicolas saw her, he started yelling at her.
"You did this! You! This is all your fault!" Nicolas was yelling very loud. You could hear the pain, hopelessness, and anger in his voice. Nicolas was broken from inside. Yet Madison didn't understand one thing, why was he blaming her?
"I didn't do anything! She jumped from the bridge by herself and no one stopped her! No one tried to stop her!" Madison was defending herself.
"What did you say?!" Somehow Nicolas became even angrier. "You were staying there and smiling at her! You were the first one to go away, to leave!" Madison had never seen him so frustrated before.
"I couldn't do anything! Anna wouldn't listen to me!"
"Well, she listened to you the first time." Nicolas yelled. "Why wouldn't she listen to you again? I can't believe what happened to you! You're not my friend anymore Madison." and then Nicolas left. Madison stayed alone with the noisiness of the police sirens. There was darkness all around her. She knew she would have to go to the police station before Detective Woodley came for her. Right after that realization dawned on her, she heard the words that she would remember for a long, long time.
"We didn't find the body. It's missing."
Someone walked into the living room and that snapped Madison out from her thoughts. Kate was still sitting across Madison, and her father had just walked into the living home.
"Katherine! It's so nice to see you after all those months!" Derek, Madison's father, said surprised when he saw Madison's best friend. He turned to look at Madison and noticed the towel. "Maddie? What happened?" He dropped his black, leather bag on the floor and sat next to Madison. He slowly took her hand from her shoulder to see the injury when his daughter groaned.
"Dad, it's all right." Madison reassured. She didn't want to make her father worried. "How did this happen?" He looked at Kate and then Madison.
"Someone broke in tonight." Katherine murmured softly.
"I think someone tried to kill me, dad." Madison cried. Her father hugged her. She shuddered.
"You should go to the hospital. I'll take you. Everything will be fine." He tried to calm his daughter down. Madison kept quiet. "Kate, thanks for coming, but I think you should go now. Your parents might be worried." Derek suggested and stood up along with Madison.
"Sure." Katherine said and left the room to open the front door. She let Madison and her father go through first. She walked right after them. Madison's father turned back around and locked the front door, and then he got in the car with Madison.
"You can come with us. I can give you a lift home if you want, Katherine." He suggested to Katherine.
"No, don't worry Mr. Rogers, I'll walk." Kate smiled.
"Whatever you want." Derek smiled back. "Thanks again for helping my daughter. She needs friends more then ever." He added and rolled up his window up.
Katherine didn't say anything. When Madison and Derek left, she walked back home. Katherine finally got home after fifteen minutes of walking. Her house was a three story house, it was just nice and modern, but it didn't have a gorgeous, huge garden like Madison's. Her car wasn't as big and expensive as Derek's car, but it was very expensive. Her mom, Margaret Rogers, was working as a store assistant in the Brooklyn Mall and her salary was enough to cover up all the bills. Wren Westler, Madison's father worked at the Brooklyn Museum. He had to know informations about all the unique stuff that would come for an exhibition. His duty was to speak about items and explain them to an audience. His job was way more beautiful then Madison's mother's job and Wren had a bigger salary. They had enough money for living, but not for wasting.
Katherine wasn't the only child in her family. She had an older brother named Samuel. He loved to play guitar and sing. Katherine always thought about how it was possible for him to have such a wonderful voice and wonderful taste in music when she didn't, neither had her parents. When she talked to her mother about this, she would always get a short answer. Margaret would say that she'd tried to play the piano when she was little, but she'd played it only for two years and then decided to quit when she realized music wasn't for her. Then I'm the copy of my mother and Samuel is the special one, Katherine thought like always. She's always had the feeling her parents liked Wren more then her. Especially since he was first born.
Katherine locked the front door and realized her parents were sleeping. All the lights were turned off. Her little, tiny room was upstairs next to the bathroom and her brother's room. She went to the bathroom to wash her hands. She thought of taking a shower, but she noticed she was very sleepy. She dressed up into her pajamas and went to her room. The walls were an ocean blue shade which was her favourite. Beside the window was her bed and next to it a small bookshelf. Her room had a dresser, a desk and a mirror. Her room was tiny, small, and crowded. She wanted to have a bigger room like Samuel had. Everytime she invited her friends, especially in the summer, everyone would get worried about the small place. They would tell her that there was no space for breathing.
Katherine heard some noise in her brother's room and get out of hers. She put her ear on Samuel's door, so she could hear better. She bolted into the room after she heard a loud crash. She jumped into Samuel's room and caught him coming in from outside out of the window.
"Samuel?" Katherine said carefully.
"Hi sis!" Samuel answered relaxed. Katherine became speechless when she realized her brother was all in black.
