Madison opened the classroom door and stepped inside. She saw all her classmates sitting quietly and Mr. Lorens, her biology professor, and suddenly felt strange and had forgot to close the door. She couldn't decribe the feeling. Everyone was staring at her, even her old friends and it brought huge unease through her stomach. However, it felt like a dream, a lot of them had changed.
Nicolas wasn't thin anymore, like he had been a year ago. Nicolas had gained more weight and from the looks of it, he had been working out. Nicolas had muscles now and was way handsomer. Ashley was sitting by Nicolas and her blue eyes were glossier than ever. She had long brown hair that was forming curls at the ends and her makeup was lipstick that was a light shade of pink and white eyeshadow. Her stare was pointed at Madison like every other person in the classroom, except her expression was a little different. She wasn't that surprised. She looked normal and her eyes and mouth were't widely opened like the others were. Nicolas and Ashley were two of Madison's friends and they were the calmest of them all. Edward was sitting with Andrew and neither had really changed. Andrew's hair was still curved and black, while Edward's was maybe an inch or two longer.
Madison noticed her old best friend Katherine who was sitting alone next to the window and looking through it. It seemed like she was the only person who didn't look at Madison. She knew Maddie was here, but it was like she didn't even care.
Why Kate? Why? That hurt Madison the most. She finally turned to look at her teacher and breathed deeply. She didn't say anything, so Mr. Lorens took that as a chance to speak.
"Look who is here, Madison Rogers! But you're late." Mr. Lorens stood up. He hated when students were late to his class.
Yeah, I am late. So what? What are you going to do? Punish me? It's not like I'm scared.
"I'm really sorry I'm late." Madison blurted, but she couldn't believe she was saying this. She was never sorry that she was late last year. What happened to her? At that moment, Madison realized she had changed, she didn't wanted to nor had she meant to change, but she didn't miss the old Madison either. Some of the students turned their heads away from her and started opening the books on the desks. Biology books? She thought. Great, because I don't have one.
"All right. We're losing time, so just sit somewhere." Mr. Lorens said sharply.
Madison checked every seat in the classroom and noticed how the only free seat was next to Katherine.
This day couldn't be worse. Madison wanted to run far away from there. Katherine hadn't wanted to even look at her when she walked into the classroom and now she had to sit next to her? You had got to be kidding. Madison couldn't stop looking at Katherine whose head was still pointed towards the window.
"Just go sit with Katherine. The only free seat is by her anyway." When Katherine heard this, she turned her head immediately. She was confused before she realized what was going to happen. Madison had always sat with her last year, but now it seemed as if she wasn't wanted.
"What?! Her!? I'm sorry, but Matthew will be here any second! He's going to be sitting here!" Katherine shouted with excuses.
Kate and Matthew? She hated him! He was the last person from our class she had wanted to see. Madison couldn't believe what was happening, what had gone on between Kate and Matthew that made her okay with him? Madison was gone for five months, five months, yet this place had turned upside down.
"Miss Westler?" Mr. Lorens said impatiently. He was annoyed. He hated when students were losing time for nothing.
"It's okay, I can..." Madison started, he stopped her.
"No Madison. It is not! Go and sit next to Katherine! Anymore words that come out of your mouth will be unnecessary." Mr. Lorens was pissed off. He took off his glasses and pointed with them to the free seat.
Madison went and sat next to Katherine when the dark-haired girl moved her chair as far away as she could. Just like last year, but she hadn't ever moved herself away from Madison last year! Madison felt sad. She wanted the old Katherine. She wanted her friend.
