Maya woke up to the sound of her alarm. It was her first day of highschool and she knew she had to be at Riley's exactly at seven o'clock it was their tradition since 7th grade. Getting out of bed she clicked off her alarm clock and looked at the time, it was six in the morning. Maya gave a smile to herself and grabbed a change of clothes before walking out of her bedroom and into the bathroom that was to the left of her bedroom door. Quickly she did her normal routine, using the bathroom, taking a shower, changing, doing her hair, and lastly brushing her teeth. Then she was finally done by 6:45 and begin walking to riley's arriving at 6:55 like she always did she waited until her watch said seven o'clock then she placed her finger on the buzzer to Riley's apartment and spoke into the speaker, "it's me Maya let me in losers." She smiled as she listened to Riley's voice speak back, "come on up." Her voice came in through the speaker and Maya opened the apartment door and walked up to the top floor. Opening Riley's door she smiled, "what's for breakfast?" She said as she sat next to Riley at the table. Riley passed her a plate with waffles covered in syrup and butter, "you know me so well." She smiled as she looked at the table. Auggie was watching the little T.V like normally eating a bowl of cereal as Cory, Maya's dad, joined in with Auggie. Tapanga smiled and watched her family as she ate and casually made glances towards the clock. Maya finished the few waffles on her plate and grabbed Riley's arm, "time for the subway! Do you have your card?" She asked before dragging Riley to the door. Riley checked in her pockets and nodded, "yup I got them." She smiled. Maya nodded, "good." She grabbed Riley's backpack on there way out the door. "Why is your bag so heavy." Maya looked at Riley in a puzzled way. Riley looked at her, "your bags not heavy?" She soon realized that Maya wasn't carrying a bag. "Maya." She extended her name as she spoke. Maya smirked, "don't you remember you let me put my stuff in your bag a few days ago." She patted Riley's head. Riley nodded, "oh yeah!" She raised a finger. Maya rolled her eyes and let out a small chuckle, "come on let's get to school." She dragged Riley towards the subway. "You mean let's get to high school." Riley smiled as she was being dragged. "Are you going to let me drag you all day?" Maya laughed letting go of Riley. Riley stood up straight and grabbed Maya's arm, "I only didn't stop you because I you're my best friend ;and only my best friend Maya Hart can drag me around." Riley smiled as she gave Maya a sideways hug. Maya smiled and hugged her back, "now lets go." Riley nodded as she walked onto the subway with Maya at her side taking a deep breath, "i'm not ready." Riley admitted. Maya held onto the silver pole in the middle of the subway with Riley across from her, "you'll be fine. We have the same classes don't worry." Maya gave a small smile. Riley nodded and smiled back as she gulped and took another deep breath as the subway began to move. Then her eyes caught the attention of a young man sitting in the corner of the subway. Poking Maya until she got irritated, "what." Maya muttered with a sigh. Riley pointed at the guy in the corner. His hair was a perfect brown and his face was well to Riley it was things she couldn't describe. Maya nodded slowly as she looked at the guy and then she slowly pushed Riley's arm down, "honey, pointing at him is not gonna help." Maya shook her head. Riley pointed at him again, "subway boy." She smiled. Maya sighed and pushed her hand back down, "go talk to him then." Maya said and pushed Riley over towards him. Quickly Riley made her way back to Maya, "Riley's scared." Riley said. Maya rolled her eyes and walked over to him, "hey subway boy. Go talk to the girl holding onto the silver pole looking at you." She said looking at the boy. He looked up at Maya and gave a crooked smile, "uh do I know you?" he spoke. Maya shook her head, "I'm Maya. Thats Riley. Now get over there." She pointed. "I'm Lucas." He stood up. "Fine, but what's in it for me?" he smirked. Maya rolled her eyes, "nothing cowboy now go over there." Maya pushed him over towards Riley. Lucas looked at Maya and then at Riley, "Hey Riley. I'm Lucas." He introduced himself. Riley looked at him and giggled, "hey." She looked up at him. Lucas looked at her he felt a bit uncomfortable yet he didn't seem to mind. That was odd for him. Maya sat back on the chair in the corner that Lucas was sitting in. Watching Lucas and Riley actually get into a conversation. Maya sighed as she watched Riley actually enjoy talking to a stranger which was not normal for Riley. Soon the subway came to a stop in front of Maya and Riley's school, "Riley! It's time to leave cowboy and get to school." Maya grabbed her arm and dragged her off the subway. Riley waved bye to Lucas and stood up straight and walked by Maya's side. "You like him don't you?" Maya said. Riley nodded and smiled big, "yeah." She giggled and pulled Maya into the girls bathroom. "I think that i'm in love." Riley smiled as she sat on the counter that held the sinks. Maya didn't sit down she just looked up at Riley, "you just met the guy, you can't be in love. You should love someone that's always been there." Maya said. Riley looked at Maya, "like who Farkle." She shivered. Maya shook her head, "no. Never Farkle is just our best friend that's it." She said. "Just promise me you won't rush into things without getting to know him." Maya said. Riley nodded, "I promise Maya." She jumped down from the counter and hugged her. Maya hugged Riley back, "your hair smells good." Maya pulled back with a laugh. "Oh and never leave me for a guy. You're my best friend remember that." Maya added to her statement on Riley's hair. Riley laughed, "yeah I know my hair smells nice, you say that everyday. I also know that I would never choose some cute guy over you." Riley smiled and grabbed Maya's hand pulling her out of the bathroom. Maya smiled, "let's get to class. I'm sure it's just a bunch of losers listening to the teacher talk about how the year's going to go." Maya shrugged walking towards the first class, english. Riley stopped Maya, "hey! I'm one of those losers." She crossed her arms. Maya nodded, "but it doesn't matter if you're a loser because you're my loser." She began to walk to into class. Riley followed Maya into the classroom and smiled looking around, "oh subway boy." She stopped and looked at Lucas who sat behind Maya. Maya looked behind her and smirked, "howdy you do cowboy." She tipped her head mimicking a cowboy. Lucas rolled his eyes, "you're gonna go on and assume i'm a cowboy." He looked at her. Maya nodded, "well are you?" She twisted around placing her arm on his desk. Lucas sighed, "yeah i'm from texas and I had 23 horses." He muttered. "I rest my case." Maya smirked and turned around. "Riley stop looking at him like that." Maya turned Riley's head to the front of the class. Riley crossed her arms and nodded at Maya, "but it is him right?" She turned quickly to Maya who sat beside her in another desk. Maya nodded, "yes its showdown cowboy Lucas." Maya said as calm as she could. Riley nodded, "okay." she smiled and looked forwards again crossing her arms on her desk and laying her head on them. Then a teacher walked in she had a biker's helmet in on hand a bag from a comic book store in the other. "Hello students I am Ms.Kim and I suppose most of you know eachother. If not you'll get to know each other after I assign books." She said setting her helmet down. Maya raised her hand slowly, "Ms.Kim. Your giving us homework on the first day of school?" Maya asked her eyebrows furrowed. Ms.Kim looked down at Maya, "well ofcourse what else is school for." She shrugged putting a comic book about batman and superman on Maya's desk. "Now i'm going to pass the rest out and I expect no more interruptions." She said strictly and walked around the class placing the same book on everyone's desk. Riley was about to raise her hand but Maya quickly pushed her hand down, "no Riley. This teacher seems scary." She whispered. Riley nodded slowly and kept her hand down. The rest of the class time was spent looking through the comic book and talking to each other about it while Ms.Kim sat at her desk eating and writing on some peice of paper. When the bell rang Maya jumped up and pulled Riley out of the class with her, "i'm coming over to your house after school so don't make any plans." Maya said and walked to her next class. Riley walked with her, "of course." She smiled and rushed into the next class which was History. Every other class were getting used to their classmates. The day seemed to go by fast and before you knew it Maya was on the subway with Riley on their way to Riley's house. "Window?" Maya smiled. "Window." Riley smiled as the subway came to a stop Maya and Riley walked off the subway and here comes Lucas behind them, "oh hey Riley." He smiled. "Maya." He nodded to her. Riley smiled, "hi." Maya rolled her eyes and got back on the subway, "I'll see you tomorrow." She muttered to Riley as the subway doors shut and the subway took off. Riley was looking at Lucas and then she realized what she did, "damn it." Riley muttered to herself. Lucas looked at Riley, "uh are you okay? Is Maya okay?" Lucas asked slowly. Riley sighed, "no. I promised her I wouldn't get all mushy around you pretty much and I just did so she's mad. I'm mad too. I broke a promise I made." Riley sighed. Lucas began to walk home with Riley letting Riley rant out. Maya on the other hand sat on the subway for one stop and got off walking to her own house. Walking in she went to her kitchen and grabbed a tub of ice cream, "mom i'm home!" She called as she grabbed a spoon and went to her room. Knowing her mom wouldn't respond she sighed and grabbed a pair of grey sweatpants and a white t-shirt changing into it she turned on her T.V and began to eat the tub of ice cream as she watched the first show that came on, pretty little liars. It was a old episode she had already seen but she kept it on." Just then Maya's mother walked in her door, "I saw the ice cream was gone. anything you want to talk about? You seem down honey." Maya's mother Kate said. Maya instantly broke into tears as she gulped down a spoon of ice cream. Kate walked over to Maya and placed her arm around her, "speak to me." She whispered to Maya. Maya looked at her mother and opened her mouth yet no words came through clearly. Kate sighed, "no matter what it is I am here for you. Never forget that." She said getting up. Maya looked down and back up, "mom wait." She mumbled "I-i-it's just that Riley has a crush on this guy she just met and I don't like that she has a crush on him." She looked down. Kate looked at her daughter, "can you tell me why you don't like this?" She asked. Maya nodded slowly, "because she might like her back and I like her too." She began to play with her fingers looking down. Kate smiled sweetly, "Maya your my daughter and if you love Riley more than a friend then you have to show her. I don't care if you like her but I care if you're hurt and eating all the ice cream." She smiled and walked over kissing her on the head, "remember Riley doesn't mean to hurt you." She said and walked out. Maya sighed and continued to eat the ice cream, she knew she had to say something to Riley one day but she just didn't know if she was ready. She decided to go to sleep early so quickly she rushed the rest of the ice cream downstairs and back into the freezer and back into her room, jumping on her bed. Tomorrow. Tomorrow I will tell her. Maya thought as she lied down and shut off her TV going to bed.
