I Needed Her

Chapter 3

The next days Riley and Maya walked to school together, Riley still talked to Lucas everyday but Maya didn't care until it all went gone on Friday. Maya woke up in her own room, "Friday morning." She smiled getting out of bed picking out her plain black t-shirt and her green camouflage jeans. Then rushing into the bathroom she took a quick shower did her business and straightened her hair brushed her teeth and left her house. Walking to the subway she got on and rode to Riley's apartment. 7:00 came and she buzzed in, "Maya losers." She called into the speaker like she normally did. "Come up peaches." Riley's voice called. Maya laughed and rolled her eyes going inside she walked to the top floor and opened Riley's apartment door, "waffles?" Maya asked as she went and sat next to Riley. Riley smiled, "and toast." She giggled with a large cheesy smile. Maya smiled and grabbed a plate with 3 waffles placed on it dousing it in syrup she grabbed a fork and began to eat them. "You know me so well." She said through a full mouth to Riley with a smile. Riley nodded, "I know." She said getting up. Maya took a few more bites leaving half a waffle on the plate and stood up walking with Riley to the door, "bye mom by daddy!" Riley said before she left through the door. Maya bit her lip and followed Riley latching their arms together they walked down to the subway. When they got on the subway Riley saw Lucas and looked at Maya, "can I talk to him today?" She smiled sweetly. "Go. I can't stop you." She smiled and pushed her over to Lucas. Riley smiled as Maya pushed her towards Lucas, "hi." She smiled sitting next to him. "Hey Riley." Lucas smiled closing his book. "Hey Riley? I was wondering if you wanted to maybe go on a date tomorrow. Saturdays are the best for dinner out." He smiled looking at her. Maya had headphones in she never liked to listen in on their conversations. Riley smiled, "yeah." She hugged him standing up and walking to Maya tapping her shoulder. Maya turned around and turned off her music taking her headphones out. "What is it Riles?" She smiled. "Lucas asked me out on a date." She jumped up and down in an excited motion. Maya nodded slowly trying not to break, "when?" She asked through a cracked voice. "Tomorrow. For Dinner." She smiled leaning in for a hug. Maya backed away, "no. You said you wouldn't get attached so fast. You promised me." Maya's voice was fully cracked now as she held in her tears. Riley frowned and crossed her arms, "why can't you just be happy for me?" She snapped at Maya. Maya shook her head and pushed past Riley going to stand in front of the subway door, waiting for the stop. Riley rushed over to her, "Maya I refuse to leave you alone until you tell me what's wrong with you." She declared. Maya ignored her staring out of the windowed subway door. Riley turned Maya around by her shoulder and looked at her, "tell me now Maya!" She stomped her foot not caring if she was making a scene on the subway. Maya turned back around not answering her, staring back at the windowed door. Riley sighed and let go of Maya's shoulder, "I wish you would just open up to me." Maya nodded and stepped off the subway walking to the school. Riley followed her just to be stopped by Lucas, "i'll pick you up at 7:00?" He said with a questioning tone. Riley nodded and walked after Maya. Maya turned into the school and went straight to the bathroom. Riley followed her and walked into the bathroom, "Maya please explain to me!" She walked over to a stall that Maya went inside off. Maya sighed and said nothing she just stood in the stall. Riley sighed, "at least come out of the stall. It's gross in there." She exclaimed as he backed from the stall door. Maya came out from the stall and walked over to a wall near the sinks and leaned on it her arms crossed. Riley walked over to her, "i'm sorry okay? I didn't want to make you feel however you're feeling. I just got a date with Lucas what's the big deal?" Riley asked. Maya bit her lip and stood up straight opening her mouth as if she was about to talk yet no words seemed to come out. Maya sighed, "Riley. I was going to tell you everything Saturday but you have plans with Lucas. I don't want you to fall in love with him. I don't want you to fall in love with anyone, anyone but me. I never told you cause I was always really fucking scared. I'm gay Riley. I love you, I love you more than a friend Riley. I just didn't know if you would understand or not." She began to cry which she never cried in front of most people. Riley was speechless she stood there looking at sobbing Maya, my best friend is in love with me. I never expected that. Riley thought as she brought Maya in for a hug. "I don't know what to say. Maya I don't even know if I could even know if I could return your feelings." She looked down as Maya looked up wiping her eyes. Maya pulled away from the hug and looked at Riley she took her hand and pulled Riley's chin turning her face to look at Maya. Riley looked at Maya's eyes that were red from the crying Maya looked back at her and leaned slowly in, kissing her lips. Riley didn't stop the kiss from happening she closed her eyes and moved her arms around Maya's waist. Maya's eyes closed as well as she removed her lips and hugged Riley closely. "Riley." Maya whispered.

"Yes Maya?" She whispered back.

"Do you think you can return your feelings yet?" She asked.

"I think so Maya. Give me time." She sighed.

Maya nodded and pulled away from the hug. "When you have a real answer i'll be at my house, waiting." She snapped and walked out of the bathroom going home.

AN- Another short chapter but the story's not done yet! I promise I will try to make the next chapter long. What do you think Riley will choose? Maya over Lucas or Lucas over Maya?
