I Needed Her

Chapter Two

Waking up Maya clicked off her alarm which hadn't yet been set off, "5:53." Maya rubbed her eyes as she sat up. "Tuesday. That's One, Two, Three, Four days." Maya sighed and picked out her NYC sweatshirt and a pair of black skinny jeans wearing her only pair of shoes, black converse. Taking a short shower she brushed her teeth and fixed her hair with curls before walking out her bedroom door. It was 6:36 Maya had some time but she decided to start walking right away, "maybe if I do everything early then time will go by fast." She said to herself. She made it to Riley's house by 6:49 and decided to walk around her block a few times until it reached 7:00 then walking halfway around the rest of the block she buzzed in, "It's Maya." She said into the speaker but it wasn't Riley's voice she heard back through the speaker instead it was her little brother Auggie, "Riley got picked up by some good looking guy try the subway." He said. Maya bit her lip and walked away slowly. Making her way to the subway her face only expressed dullness as if she was dead. Once she arrived she saw Riley and Lucas on a bench talking, Maya sighed and waited in a distance for the subway to come. Watching Riley and Lucas occasionally, Riley was smiling like she normally did and Lucas let out laughs as the talked. Maya clenched her fists and held them to her sides as the subway came. Rushing on the subway pushing past the other people she stood in the middle of the subway like she normally did. Riley and Lucas came on the subway and sat down of course talking like always since yesterday. Maya sighed as she held onto the silver pole resting her head on the pole as the subway made its way to the next stop. When the subway stopped Maya looked out, "great it's raining." She muttered and got off the subway behind her Riley and Lucas started to run. Riley ran straight past Maya not noticing her. Maya clapped her hands together as she walked slowly into the school, going to her locker she saw Riley standing there. Maya rolled her eyes and turned around, just to be tapped on the shoulder by Riley. Riley kept tapping her until Maya decided to turn around, "what! What do you want? To apologize?" She glared at Riley. Riley gave a confused look and backed away a little, "apologize for what? I didn't do anything wrong." She said as her smile faded. Maya scoffed, "are you serious? You walk to school with cowboy and then you run right past me to get into school with him." Maya's voice cracked as she spoke. Riley opened her mouth to speak but Maya stopped her, "no. I don't care. You're my best friend not his. You have one last chance Riley to not mess up our friendship." Maya said holding her own hands. Riley looked down and then back up pulling Maya into a hug. Maya hugged her back secretly wiping her eyes as she pulled away from the hug. Riley smiled, "class?" She questioned. Maya shook her head, "not if Ranger Rick is gonna be in class then i'll take my chances on going back home." She said turning around facing the doors that lead outside. Riley nodded slowly and walked to her locking elbows, "I can do that with you." She smiled. Maya and Riley walked out of the school doors just to turn around after seeing their english teacher, "yeah I don't mind seeing hopalong in one class." She pulled Riley to the class but before going in she pulled her aside, "No talking to Ranger Rick please just today." She told Riley. Riley nodded, "okay." She smiled and walked in the class. Lucas smiled and waited for Riley to sit down before he got up. Maya stood up infront of him, "hey Ranger Rick she doesn't want to talk to you try another time." She pushed him back to his seat. "It's Lucas." He muttered and sat down in his sit stealing a glance at Riley. Riley looked at him and shrugged and then sat forwards folding her arms like she always did. Maya smiled, "thank you." She said softly to Riley. An hour of the teacher talking went by and the class was soon dismissed. During lunch Riley sat with Maya. Farkle came and sat across from them, "ladies." He smiled. In sync Riley and Maya looked at each other then back to Farkle, "Farkle." They smiled. "Whats going on with Lucas and Riley." He asked looking to his left where Lucas was looking for a seat. Maya rolled her eyes, "nothing." She simply replied. Riley looked at Farkle and shrugged, "Maya doesn't like him." Maya nodded, "he gets too close to Riley. I know he's gonna hurt her and when he does he's not gonna like me." She said her tone serious. Farkle nodded, "well I shall be on my way." He said getting up. Just then Lucas came over and sat down, "this seat taken?" He asked. Maya nodded, "yup so you should get up find a horse and eat on that." She said cruley. He stood up and nodded, "I just might do that." He walked away sitting by Farkle. Maya rolled her eyes and began to eat the corn on a section of her tray. Riley looked at Maya with slight anger, "you don't have to be so mean to him Maya. He didn't do anything to you or me. Why are you so upset anyways." She glared and at Maya and stood up. "I'm going to sit by Lucas and Farkle." Riley snapped and walked over to Lucas and Farkle. Maya sighed, "there goes your promise." She sighed and threw away her tray walking out of the cafeteria. Maya wiped her eyes when she began to cry slightly as she walked out of the school. Going to sit on a bench right out of the school she hugged her knees as she cried, "I hate her. I hate him too." She wiped her eyes and stood up, getting on the subway she took it to Riley's house. On the side of the building a set of stairs curved around leading up to many windows. Maya took the stairs and climbed through Riley's window and sat on the ledge that was more or so like a small couch. Curling up she closed her eyes as she thought, soon falling asleep. A few hours pass and Riley walks in through her bedroom door seeing Maya she walked over and sat next to her, "i'm sorry. I never should have did what I did at lunch. It was stupid of me to break our promise. I love you. You're my best friend Maya and I don't want that to change." She sighed laying down behind Maya as she placed her arm around her falling asleep with Maya. Maya soon woke up and turned around feeling the body next to her, "Riley." She whispered. Getting no response she sighed and kissed her forehead, "I love you. Never forget that." Maya whispered. Riley smiled, "I love you too. Never forget that." She spoke her eyes still closed. "Now don't move your my pillow." Riley smiled placing her head on Maya's shoulder. That night Maya stayed over at Riley's falling asleep once again though this time Riley was curled onto Maya and Maya's arm stretched under her and hugged her.
