"Chloe?"
Gray. The boy from the alleyway during my meltdown. I thought I'd never see him again. Somewhere in my heart I knew I would. I don't know why though.
"Gray?" I replied with a smile. He smiled even bigger and came over and sat across from me.
"Hey." he said.
"Hi. Thank god you're here..." I said in a voice so low it was almost a whisper.
His eyebrows furrowed together. "Why's that? Did you miss me?" He said with a slight smirk on his face.
"What? No....I mean....yes?....I don't know...." He laughed at my awkward stuttering. "I meant that I'm glad you're here because that counter guy won't stop staring at me." I said. He turned and looked at him just as he started to look away.
"That guy..." He said with an emotion I couldn't decipher in his eyes. He started to stand up as my eyes widened. I quickly grabbed his arm and looked up at him.
"No, no, don't go over there please!" I whisper shouted. He sat back down and looked at me with confusion.
"Why shouldn't I go over there? He's obviously making you uncomfortable and I will not tolerate that!" He said seeming pretty aggravated. I sighed and tried to calm him down.
"Gray, telling him off isn't going to help at all. If anything it would make things worse." I said, trying to reason with him. He seemed to get my point and calmed down.
"Okay. Fine. I won't. So anyway, why are you here so early in the morning?" He said, changing the topic.
"I'm eating some breakfast. What does it look like I'm doing?" I replied. Gray looked down and saw the cinnamon roll and coffee and laughed.
"Oops. I didn't see it there." He gave me a sheepish smile and I laughed at him.
"I can't wait to try this cinnamon roll..." I said. I saw his eyes widen in surprise. I gave him a confused look. "What?"
"You've seriously never had a cinnamon roll?" He asked.
"Umm...no..." I said embarassed. Maybe I shouldn't have said that. Wait why do I care what he thinks? I barely even know him!
"Where did you come from? Because most people have had a cinnamon roll before." He said while laughing. My eyes widened. What am I gonna say?? I can't tell him the truth. Haha see about that. I've lived in this town my whole life but I've been locked in a shed for 10 years. Haha isn't that funny? No. If I told him that he might think I'm crazy and leave again. For some reason I don't want him to leave me ever again. I don't know why though. It's almost like I'm drawn to him by this weird force. It's hard to explain.
"Well...umm...I'm from...a place..." I answered. He looked at me. I couldn't read his expression. I hope he'll accept that answer...
We just stared at each other for a minute. I then saw a smile start to form and heard a small laugh.
"You are something different Chloe." He said.
"Is that a compliment?"
"Yes it is." He said. He kept staring at me. I gave him a confused look. "Well aren't you going to eat the cinnamon roll?"
"Oh! Yeah" I said. I completely forgot about it. I looked down at it and my mouth watered thinking about how good it will taste. I picked it up and started to bring it to my mouth. I looked up at Gray and saw that he was staring at me. I took a bite and my eyes widened at how delicious it was! It was sweet and sugary, something I never got the pleasure of enjoying during my life time.
