Chapter 5

Luke's POV
We sat on the hood of the general and watched the planes take off out of the Atlanta Airport. I could tell Faith enjoyed being out here from the way her eyes would light up every time a plane flew overhead. We sat in a comfortable silence neither of us wanting to leave.
"This is so cool. If I could I would never leave" faith laughed.
"Well we have all night and there's no need to rush back to the farm."
She smiled at me and laid her head down on my shoulder and looked up at me. "So how'd you find this place?" She asked. "Uh me and Bo was just driving around a couple years ago and I noticed this field and thought it would be the perfect place to bring a girl."
"Did you?"
"Besides you? No I forgot about it until tonight."
"What made you remember it all of the sudden?"
"I don't know I Just had a feeling you would love this." She laughed "you were right"
I smiled " I always am and I just might be right about something else too."
"Really? And what is that."
"This" I lifted her chin and leaned in closing my eyes. Our lips were almost touching when the sound of sirens broke us apart. Two cops pulled up flashing their lights almost blinding us. "Shit. If Uncle Jesse finds out I got us arrested he's gonna kill me."
"So he won't find out if we make a run for it."
"We can't do that."
"Yes we can and that would make such a good story to tell people."
"Your crazy as hell." I said as she laughed "but you do it all the time with Rosco. "
"That's because he's always giving his phony charges and that's complicated."
The officers walked over to us shining their flashlights in our eyes.
"You two on the ground hands in the air"
We did as they said and they searched us for any weapons. "Get up"
"Officer I think your making a big mistake we haven't don't anything wrong," faith said as she tried to sweet talk the younger looking officer and i laughed as he just got angry and tightened the cuffs on our wrists. The second officer pushed us into the back of the car and faith looked up at him "Hey do you have a lighter?"
He looked pissed and slammed the door shut talking to the other officer.
"You don't even smoke do you?"
"Nah I just wanted to make him mad."
I laughed and watched her look out the window. There was something in the way those police lights were shining that brought out the freedom in her eyes and I knew I had to be falling for her.
They locked us up in the Atlanta station and we talked and laughed while we waited for them to let us go. "You know where going to be in here all night."
She looked at me and laughed "and whose fault is that? Your the one whose bright idea was to go on a private field."
"I know so we might as well make the best of it."
"Yeah I'm doing that by going to sleep."
Faith yawned and I put my arm over her shoulder pulling her in close as she closed her eyes. She looked so peaceful and I could feel her breathe in and out. I stayed awake hoping the officers would let us out but as the hours passed I got more and more exhausted so I leaned my head against the wall an dozed off.

"Alright you two get up." The sound of the officers loud voice and rattling keys woke me up quickly. I rubbed my eyes taking in my surroundings as Faith started to get up. "What time is it?" She asked "I have no idea but we're finally getting out of here." I replied. The prison guard ushered us out of the cell and upstairs to get signed out. "Faith Cross and Luke Duke arrested for trespassing on private property. Correct?" A very bored sounding woman spoke from behind a large computer desk. "Yes mam" I responded. "Wait here until the chief comes out he wants to talk to talk."
We nodded and sat down on a bench by the front door. "Alright you create a distraction and I'll run outside and break the general out of the impound" Faith said waving my keys in her hand. "We are not making a run for it and how the hell did you get my keys?"
She shrugged like it was no big deal "they were laying behind that desk over there with all of our other stuff so I grabbed the keys to hightail it the hell out of here."
"You better make sure they don't notice or me may never get out of here."
"Sugar relax they ain't gonna notice."
I shook my head chuckling at myself "you're something else you know that."
She smiled and looked up her smile quickly fading. I followed her gaze and saw the Atlanta police chief walking towards us.
"Faith and Luke please follow me into my office."
I grabbed Faiths hand pulling her with me because I knew she would take any chance she could get to bust out. As we stepped into his large office the chief shut the door and motioned for us to sit. "So you two trouble makers where nabbed for trespassing on private property right"
"Yes sir" faith spoke up
"And why was y'all out there?"
"Well I-"
"I'm asking the lady Mr. Duke I'll get to you in a minute."
"I told Luke I knew this cools spot behind the airport and he agreed to go with me and watch the planes."
I looked over at her confused but she just kept her eyes fixed on the chief. He nodded wrote some things down then cleared his voice giving attention to me. "Luke Duke As of now you are being charged with trespassing but since your on probation that means your violations get it and you are now sentenced to 2 years no bail." I nodded knowing there was no way out of this for me.
"And Faith you either pay the $200 fine or get 90 days in the slammer--"
"Luke is innocent he shouldn't get 2 years"
"Faith I didn't finish what I was saying." The chief said exasperated.
"Oh continue"
"As I was saying that's what both of you are charged for but I called you father Faith and since I owed him one he got all the charges dropped so you two can go home after paying the $15 impound fee for you car."
We said thanks and he escorted us to the impound lot. As we reached the door Faith stopped.
"How do you know my father?"
"Before he was a Ranger he was in the Air Force and I was his wingman/ copilot and during Nam we got shot down but he pulled me out before our F-16 blew."
Faith rolled her eyes "ugh why has he never told me this?"
"He probably doesn't want to think about that too much. After the accident he went back to Texas and retired from the Force after 15 years, I'm surprised he joined up with the Rangers after all this time."
Faith was speechless as she continued walking to the impound lot. I gave re chief the fee and we shook hands "Thanks officer for everything."
"Anytime just next time y'all are in Atlanta stay off private grounds."
"Yes sir"
I helped Faith into the General and started it up. When made it down the road about a half an hour when I looked at the time on the dash and slammed on the brakes "hot damn its 3:30 Uncle Jesse is gonna kill us."
"We'll be fine I'm sure he won't even know if we sneak in through the back."
"Let's hope so."
We pulled into the farm and all the lifts were out. I grabbed her hand and we ran behind the house ducking under the windows in case someone wakes up. "Alright Bo always keeps our window open so if we can get in there than you can just get into your room from there."
"Okay sounds good"
We reached me and Bo's room and sure enough the window was wide open. "I'm going to give you a boost and then I'll climb in after" she nodded as I put my hands together making a step. I hoisted her up through the window where she landed quietly into my room. I climbed in and we walked to my door.
"We'll look who finally got home" Bo said making Faith and I jump then burst into laughter. "Bo what the heck are you doing up?" I whisper yelled
"Well I was asleep until I heard y'all come in through the window. So where were y'all?"
"In jail" Faith shrugged "Faith you weren't supposed to tell anyone"
"Since when? It's no big deal."
"Yall were in jail. What the heck happened?"
"Nothing Bo we just got detained for trespassing it's not a big deal now help me get Faith to her room without Uncle Jesse hearing us."
"Yeah like that's going to happen. He's going to hear you the minute you open that door just have Faith say in our room tonight."
"Wow Bo did that hurt?"
"What?"
"When you actually used that brain of yours to think"
"Ha ha real funny Luke."
"Go back to sleep" I said thawing a pillow at him. Bo shook his head and laid back down. I grabbed a few blankets out of the closet and made a bed for myself on the floor.
"Uh Luke I don't have any clothes for bed and I am not wearing this"
I laughed and threw her my shirt to put on "Now turn around and you two Bo."
I did as I was told and faced the other way while she undressed. I heard her walk over to my bed and slip under the sheets. "Goodnight Luke" she whispered. "Goodnight" I responded as I laid down and let sleep take over me.
